    Coercive Control

    https://www.news.com.au/national/nsw...984de71aee5ff6

Physical violence is criminal. Duh. Always has been.

But this seems to go too far.

    wtf Australia?

    ———-
Coercive control can manifest in different ways and is linked to a pattern of behaviour that may include financial and emotional abuse, violence and intimidation, threats against pets or loved ones, tracking someone’s movements, or isolating them from family and friends.

    Coercive Control

You might feel differently if you were a woman. Tell us how it goes too far? How do you feel about laws against stalking?

Stalking is illegal. Get a restraining order.

ALL of that shit? Sounds like the usual crap that happens in a breakup. If one of you is smart enough to leave.
    SEVEN YEARS IN PRISON??
    wtf
    Threatening a pet? wtf.
I’m going to kill your dog. But not actually harming the dog. How is that a crime. Threatening a human is assault. Has been forever. Threatening a police dog is assault on a police officer. But if I tell my neighbor I’m going to kill his dog if it keeps shitting on my yard is not a crime

More laws. More nanny state. More court bullshit. Enjoy.

Hey genius, stalking is a form of coercive control. A protective order only works if the offending party is normal and not a sociopath.

The law is basically making bullying illegal. Why should I have to worry about people engaged in threatening behavior trying to exercise their will. I’m not really concerned about my safety, I’m a large white male, people tend to steer clear of me apparently I’m intimidating. I do however worry about the well being of others that might be subject to the kind of behavior that law addresses and that may be more susceptible. My younger daughter for example had a controlling, bullying boyfriend for a while, nothing really illegal but she was being coerced by his behavior. That would be covered by this law.

Like it or not, not everyone is as ignorant or uncaring as you are.

I'm not sure why you think it's any different. To me they're all just different flavors of the same thing.

The devil is in the details, what actual behavior gets prosecuted in practice.

“Isolating them from family or friends”

    What’s the response to that?
How is that a crime. Assuming you’re not physically restraining them?

I’m shocked but not surprised by your responses.
The crimes are already crimes. This is next level bullshit. It’s all justice warrior until you find yourself in court for a seven year sentence for telling your ex wife she can’t visit your mother.

    Ooooo
    This looks dangerous. And criminal.

Better call the cops. Rather than just leaving a fucked up relationship.

PS. I’m ok with this new phrase of coercive control. It’s a fancy word for abusive relationship. But making it criminal? Wtf

So it’s okay to tell your spouse they can’t visit their family? The only thing wrong with that scenario is if you’re physically restraining someone?

It’s hard enough to end a relationship under “normal” circumstances, what happens when there’s a power imbalance and there’s bullying and threats? Normal relationship stuff, no need to help those people?

I see this as mainly protecting the vulnerable, mostly women and children but the elderly too. Apparently you have issues with that.

yes, it's sad that this has to be legislated -- but apparently, there are people out there who find it normal to threaten & coerce others -- maybe you know one?

If Core Shot thinks it's so easy to leave how come he's still crawling around the house in a dog collar and leash licking the floors clean. Come on CS--you don't have to put up with it.

My wife is guilty of at least 7 of those out of 12. She just seems to get 10% worse every year.

I'd leave but I'd have to give her 50% custody and I couldn't protect my kids then while she had them.

I keep looking for better options.

    So ….

If you tell your housemate to eat a bag of dicks? You might go to jail!

So there you go. The reverse cowgirl.

Everyone is piling on about dudes saying mean things to girls and need to do prison time.
So for you instead of divorce you just hit her with a charge of ”coercive control” and send her ass to prison.

    Winning!
