Forest fuel management here comes down to tenure. Doesn’t matter what tenure - private land, water, range, forest, doesn’t matter. All expect someone else to pay for the risk. And mgmt of the risk must remain in the control of the tenure. This is what frustrates First Nations - their governance doesn’t have western concepts of tenure, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

As a tax payer, I can not abide subsidizing large tenure holders’ liability. I also don’t want my house to burn in a cat5 blaze. And roll my eyes when fuel treatment smoke causes local Karens to lash out in social media.

Been trying hard to advocate for transition of disturbance types in the WUI to fire maintained ecosystems (NDT4). But it’s tenure that restricts this. Oh well, once the fire passes through, the argument is moot. Then I get to arrange salvage on crown/public lands and schedule reforestation plans. At least in the latter I can be effective.

Neighborhood text chain claims some kids had fireworks. Oldest was in the backyard on trampoline and heard a loud boom. I put some videos of the air attack on instagram:https://www.instagram.com/p/DKFt1i6h...RlODBiNWFlZA==

Decent sized fire closed hwy three ninety five at mono lake. Not sure if it’s reopened yet but that makes for a three and a half hour detour otherwise
