Alta implemented reservations not to ease congestion but in order to try and prevent people from showing up early and getting in the way of snow removal and other operations. Plus they were able to turn it into another revenue stream. They also started charging bc skiers which is one of the least skier friendly things they’ve ever done. The fact that reservations end at 1 actually contributes to the afternoon traffic as there is another mass if skiers that come up in the afternoon and stay until closing. Personally I hate the idea of having to make reservations to go skiing. It’s always been a get up early and get after it sport to me. Most days the commute up lcc is a breeze, and then the days where it isn’t seem so much worse because of how easy and fast it normally is. The skiing the past week has been awesome and all and all the road hasn’t been that bad. But the fact remains it only takes one crappy driver to fuck the road.
Truth! And as visiting Ikon visitors MuggyDude and Duffman has posted here, they believe the juice is def worth the squeeze. Lift lines are never more than 10 minutes they said - (not counting the tram) on massive, massive holiday weekends, and there is always pow to be had and free refills on a normal Utah deep pow weekend. Colorado and tahoe are so much worse for lines its crazy to even compare those places, so come to Utah if you want a good vaction with often guaranteed lake effect good pow, overstated whiney traffic issues and short lift lines after the first hour or so after people get spread out. No parking res? pro tip - Locals just Uber up and so should you. If anyone needs help booking their vacations to ski BCC and LCC, we are here to help. Plenty of room for more skiers up here, come one, come all!
I would like to thank everyone, especially dshack, for being so gracious RE my rant. I got a back spasm and am on a 10 day no boardin streak.
As much as id like to believe otherwise, boarders would definitely put in atrocious traverses. I finally did a ski day at alta this year and am looking forward to another one, though i dont know how many days it would be until im confident enough in chop to take on a pow day.

If you fix traffic and add other transportation alternatives, longer lift lines. Guessing the four resorts could implement max users or ticket reservations. Bottom line is not enough acreage.
When did roadside parking at White Pine become not allowed? Parked behind a couple of cars on the road today, because the lot was full. I didn't think anything of it, because I've done it several times in past years. Came back to a $150 ticket and sure enough, No Parking Anytime signs all around. Am I just an asshole or is this new and I missed the memo!?
Also, saw at least 4 people park at White Pine and walk to Snowbird. Respect the effort, but damn...
New USFS program. Need to purchase a local pass from Wasatch National Forest Station or U.S. National Park Pass equivalent to park White Pine, Spruces and others. Went into effect around November.
Check the ticket, read the fine print - may be cheaper/cheapest if you pay sooner. Do not delay, penalty goes up if you wait, ask me how I know.

I have a parks pass, and even had it on the dash. I thought that was the only change this year. But absolutely no roadside parking was very new to me. I can't seem to find any info about it online.
I bet you were parked too far west (under Little Pine slide path), or too far east (under Limber Pine).
Theres the big No parking beyond this sign, avalanche danger, or something like that on the uphill side of the road just west of the lot entrance, and another east of the lot entrance.
There is limited roadside space on either side of the lot entrance.
Occasionally they do ticket cars in those two runouts...

Yeah I thought I was clear of those. I was probably ~30 yards past the entrance of the lot (East). Oh well. Live and learn I guess?

Yep that sign is the reason you were ticketed. the new signs are because people have been ignoring the big sign. The sherriffs dept took over the enforcing this year so they are writing tickets. Not a new law but it will be enforced more heavily from here on out. </p>

When I rolled into the lower Zoom lot this morning the sheriff was going car to car in that front handicap row checking for handicap tags, first I’ve seen that. It seems like they’re stepping up parking enforcement on various fronts.
I got moved along parking at the traditional start of Tanners the other day too, even though I see no "no parking" signs. They are tightening that whole canyon up
if you or your friend had the sprinter in LCC I'm terribly sorry for interrupting your night but the "Reserved employee parking for t.battesh" sign was real, I hope you find a good spot.

Bravo to the Sandy PD for pulling out vehicles in the line up on South Wasatch who cruise the left / thru lane and then dive in if they find a sliver of an opening, such a douche bag move.</p>
People parking and walking up from the China Wall was one I’ve never seen.
Anybody got an extra Alta parking reservation for tomorrow they aren't going to use? Trying to help a buddy

“Bravo to the Sandy PD for pulling out vehicles in the line up on South Wasatch who cruise the left / thru lane and then dive in if they find a sliver of an opening, such a douche bag move.” One of the joys of driving an older truck with rusty quarter panels is that I suffer no fools on zipper merges. You wanna be a dick and not let me in, game on.</p>

The most glorious thing I've ever seen was about 15 years ago, waiting in the LH turn lane into BCC. We get close to the turn and the dickbags come in, one of them trying to get in ahead of us. I'm screaming at my buddy driving his rental car to no way no how let these fuckers in. They give up on us and cut off the lady in front of us. The light turns red, traffic stops. She gets out of her car, runs up to their car, opens their door and starts screaming at them. She give them the what for and then slams their door hard enough we see the car osclillate. Buddy and I are cheering her, it was epic.</p>

Manana, manana.
They were hoping for this coming weekend a coupla days ago.
Problem isnt the gearbox, like I was thinking, but a part in the gearbox.
We got some weather coming, and they didnt work during last weeks weather on account of not wanting to contaminate the open gearbox which is on the peak in nasty driving weather.
Dont know if weather is still a factor in the fix...
Funny how no Mineral so changes the frontside.
Sure has been an awesome addition to an already great hill.

was there any gnashing of teeth about mineral before it opened, or was everyone on board with the idea of south facing terrain?
I figure it wouldnt have opened on friday anyway, but it could be a tough weekend without it.
