Can confirm the drives up LCC and BCC are so unbearable it's hardly ever worth it. It's gotten so bad I might move to Denver. I70 in Colorado is a much more pleasant drive almost any day. Much better snow and mountains as well

I thought that a couple of statements from the UDOT rep were misleading and disingenuous. The town of Alta guy nailed it.

Not one day this season did I start skiing at 10:30 on a Saturday and have a sick day of skiing. Nope, not once.

That’s my usual arrival time. Preferred parking is expensive but that shit is worth every penny. I like the sleep in, stop at McDonalds, maybe hit the 7 for some apres snacks. Arrive at 10-11, park rock star, walk across the street and ski.

That was my MO at Pow Mow. Leave O-town around 10, under-the-radar parking at Village by 10:45. Drop into Mary's and hit Cobabe laps.

Now, alas, those days are over.

So if I have my ikon base Black Plus and a parking pass at snowbird can I ski the cirque to the high T and use my ikon pass at alta to get home to my Mormon wives before 5pm?
It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.

Why is there a scan gate between the resorts?
Every base lift has a scanner.
Let people cross to get where they want to end their day.
    Kill all the telemarkers
But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
    Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!
Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason

Simple. This is a case of the majority ruining it for the minority. For every educated person using the gate as you describe, there'd be 20 jerrys ending up in locations where they need to take a lift to get back and don't have a pass at that resort, inevitably creating a mess.

Utah is implementing a "Moroni First" RFID card for those carrying a valid, current Temple Recommend card. Cut in front of any lift line, priority lane up LCC, first tracks all day.

    You know what to do.

The Wasatch is the poster child for "This is why we can't have nice things."

...probably more like take the bus or hitch or walk. Nobody NEEDS a chairlift to get from Alta to Snowbird or vice versa.

edit: unless I suppose it's a skier dropping into Mineral Basin from Alta.

Yea, I think someone would eventually realize those are the options after talking to the “manager.” When the “manager” has to have that conversation 50 times a day is when they put the RFID gate at the boundary.

    Yes. Morons. And Tourons.

But it could be like a backcountry gate. With big warning signs. You are leaving the resort.

Say you have ikon. Ski Alta. Want to end up at the bird to hang with friends. Doesn’t make sense to burn a bird day just to gravity down the other side of the ridge.

Morons and tourons… Jesus dude, the only gate to be scanned at is in Mineral. If you want to ski Alta and end up at Snowbird it isn’t rocket surgery.

Brain fart. I always forget about the lower crossovers. Just started getting back to lcc after decades of elsewhere.

But criss cross. Say you want to go from mineral to Alta to finish. Why scan?

PS. Like the “rocket surgery” phrase. I’m stealing that.
