Bumping this thread to see about any real world feedback on the 191 vs 184. 6ft 175lb strong skier coming off a 188 Rustler 11….Is the 191 a beast to handle? Ski mostly Whistler…..

I’m 5’ 8” and 200-lbs and only have time on the 184. They are much easier to ski than I would have initially thought based on reviews. If I skied at WB as my home mountain, I’d be on the 191.

Thanks BM. I’m leaning towards 191 for sure but I was just a bit concerned about the weight. I find the 188 Rustler 11 a tad undergunned in cut up chop (3rd lap of Peak) but if they are relatively easy to ski 191 will be the call.

FWIW, I have 188 Rustler 11’s, too. Those have been my soft snow travel ski and I use them quite a bit at WB. They float a tad better than my 184 Revolt 114’s but the Revolts are quite a bit better once things get tracked out. I don’t notice the weight, but the 191 might be a different story. I also think the Revolt skis looser in the tail, where the Rustler can feel a little more locked in to me. Rustler probably has the edge on high speed groomers, but the Revolt isn’t terrible.

So what is more damp ? the revolt or the blade optic 114 ?
I guess the revolt is stiffer in tips and tails that allows the heavier dudes to charge harder, but i'm 145lbs so a bit of flex in the tips doesn't hurt.

Not directly on topic, as a lighter guy also (6' 160), I didn't totally click with the Blade Optic 114. I replaced it with a Deathwish later in the year and I love it. Don't get me wrong, I had some truly great days on the BO114, but it wasn't as playful and poppy as I'd hoped.

I'd love to ski the Revolt 114. So many great skis, so little time...

I think you're on the right path with these two skis, then. Haven't ridden the Revolt, but the BO114 is very capable as a charger IMO. It's a pretty solid build that likes to go downhill fast. I've heard heavier skiers that thought less of it, but I think skier weight is pretty important when picking skis. Out west, I could pretty much daily the BO (and did for a chunk of last season before I hopped onto the DW). Chop, chunder and pow. Not as floaty as some in deep pow, but highly workable for it's width. My only bitch about that ski, for that application, was build quality. I hear the new one is supposed to be better. As a daily for me, I do appreciate a more poppy ski, but that's purely subjective. I've spent some time this fall deciding if the BO stays in my lineup. I think it will until I find another sturdy ski to replace it. It has its place, for sure.

I think Bandit Man has skied both.

SnowMachine - you’ve spent more time than me on the BO114, and I appreciate your comments about skier weight. I’m a bit heavier than Slashy by about 50-lbs, so my comments should be viewed with that in mind.

The 186 BO114 is a blast. I was really surprised how playful it was considering the stout construction. For me, it rewarded a more progressive/centered stance on the ski, which was a bit of an adjustment for me. Once I figured that out, the mountain turned into a playground. I find that they ski quite loose in soft snow and possess a surprising amount of pop while still having some backbone through the mid body of the ski. They would make a great big mountain/deep snow ski for a freestyle minded skier who likes to charge. I’ll add that I had one of my best powder free skiing days ever on the BO114, which totally surprised me. Much quicker and more agile than one would have thought.

While the 184 Revolt 114 achieves a similar “feel” it comes from a different angle to get there. The Revolt 114 skis much more like a wide Freeride ski that is equally loose (in the tail) and more playful than I expected. It does like to be skied with a more traditional stance. It feels like the more natural “all-arounder” but that might be due to it aligning more naturally to my style. The Revolt is easier to get on edge on firm snow and groomers, which is likely due to the tighter radius side cut under foot.

I can slash and bounce around the mountain on either and have a great time. I’ve skied the BO114 in better conditions, so it feels like a more fun ski to me whereas I’ve only skied the Revolt 114 in soft variable conditions (spring pow with a hard base underneath) which gives it a little more “all business” feel to me.

Right on!! Yeah, I think we went back and forth a bit when I first grabbed mine last year. I also had a ALL TIME weekend on my BO when it was crazy cold and deep at Mammoth.

I'd call the 186 BO114 loose and fun, but damp and very capable of going fast. I wouldn't call it super poppy, but maybe I just don't bend it the same way. It has that unique metal feel which I rarely consider poppy. Maybe just a construction distinction for me since I feel the same about all of the metal skis I get on. My preference tend to be a stiff, moderate weight, wood ski (Deathwish, Renegade) with a swing toward a metal ski when snow is firm or choppy.

Anyway... thanks for the therapy session. There's always a place in my quiver for that metal <100 ski and heavy, damp (metal or no) ~110 ski.

Thx for the advice extra insight BM. I found this review on Powder.com where the reviewer (6ft 1 and 190) gets along very well with the 184.

My biggest compliant about the 188 R11 is that it’s a bit too light and not quite stiff enough. Sounds like a 184 Revolt 114 will alleviate those concerns, charge through heavier coastal snow, and will still be pretty maneuverable in tighter spaces.

Just skied my 2024 Revolt 114 191cm and really really liked them. Found them on a deal I couldn’t resist and decided to give them a go. I also have the Blizzard Rustler 11 192cm (the orange ones) that I am probably going to replace now with the revolt and it’s the skis I will compare them with. The conditions seemed not to be the ideal for such a ski but I really wanted to try them this season, but ended up being perfect for the revolts. It was spring conditions with 10cm of fresh snow on top that before I go had turned into firm-ish variable but not frozen and also soft spring groomers but I didn’t have the chance to ski them in tighter terrain. I will start with the groomers with saying that maybe they aren’t as good as the rustlers but they can hold an edge very well and are enjoyable. Where I really felt the difference was on the variable snow. While with the rustler the firmer the snow got you had to control your speed and make more turns with these you could just straight line with full confidence and let the ski plow throw or just make bigger turns without worrying about getting deflected. When at speed on variable the rustlers starting feeling a bit ‘hollow’ compare to these that just felt solid. Regarding turn shape I didn’t feel any limitation either on groomers or variable. Having read many reviews i was worried they might feel a bit demanding especially in the 191 length but I didn’t feel this way at all, they were easy to release and I liked the strong supportive tail. All in all I wouldn’t call them more demanding than the rustlers while being a fair bit more supportive and confidence inspiring, at least where I got to ski them.About me:25 yo, 186 cm, 83kg and fairly athletic, advanced skier, prefer to ski fast on open terrain Mounting:On the recommended line with strive 14Boots: Mach 1 lv 130Other skis:Mantra M6 184cm
