What is the oldest ski you actually like and still ski.

Rocker 2 100. In my 30 or so years of mediocre skiing, this is my most reliable ski. I think mine are about 15 or 16 years old now.

2nd place to rocker 2 122.

I know skis are amazing now and I love trying them too... but I still ski these old skis more than a lot of new offerings.

If I still owned them I think the sickle would also be on that list but they got stolen so I can't remember.

2005 k2 public enemys. gifted to me circa '12. my first pair of real skis. still break them out every once in a blue moon, but mostly to look at the topsheet.

Circa 2006ish. 1st gen Lotus 138s, Flex 3 rocker 0 with the narrow shark nose and the carbon splinter topsheets. Just retired my first pair to rock skis status and mounted up the minty pair I'd had in the closet for 10+ years.

Until this year I was still on 2010 Mantras a fair bit.

Cheating, but I have a ‘92(ish) Republic of Free Surf Highlander GS snowboard that I pulled out a couple years ago.

'04 Stockli Scot Schmidt Pro 194. Still blows doors on what's out there now.

Most of my quiver is old because they stopped making skis for grownups a while back, but notably these are still in regular rotation:

'08 Scot Schmidt Pro 188
'05 Stockli Laser Cross Pro 188 (still insanely fast, raced on them last weekend)

The ca. '93 223 Elan RC DH come out once or twice a year, and I like them though they are terrifying. Don't think that counts.

Though I seem to be reaching for my HL R99 Comp every damn day now.

Still stupid good and i still own fl105, fl113, fx104, mantra 102, og bodacious, og devastators, and billygoats. Motherships, og invictus, wren 102ti, og cochise, supernatural 108's have also come and gone. I would still put these up against most of these skis in terms of smashing shallow chop and firm crud, airing soft moguls and slipping through techy chutes in variable snow. These were the skis that first opened my eyes to what a forgiving charger could be when I first demoed them at snowbird in '08. basically every other ski on this list was inspired by my pokemon-esque desire to catch 'em all after seeing what the xxl could do

I have lot's of older skis that I some time use. But oldest ski that I actually use often and is actually my goto liftski if I know snow is somewhat soft is 2015 Head Cyclic 115 183cm. Awesome ski! Unfortunately it starts to be so beat up that I need to replace it with something soon.

It's crazy to me how my OG (2003) Gotama is being held onto while I'll be selling my M102. They're basically the same ski while the M102 is a better carver (metal, sidecut) but the Gotama is a more forgiving, lighter, still fun all mountain ski. I'll just put an old FKS on it and call it good.

Also, it'll be easier to sell the M102, for sure. But I laughed when I first skied the M102. I was like-- This is a fucking Gotama. Slightly refined, kinda, for hard snow performance, but really not at all better in soft snow. And for that slot in my quiver, which is basically skiing with the kids at this point, I can't find any reason for the M102. Every time I'm on trying to perform, I wish I was on the K108... but then HL released the R110 and now I completely get it.

The R110 will replace my M102 as my DD while my OG Gotama will become my dad ski. Only because it'll be easier to sell the M102.

Either that or I just don't have the heart to sell my OG Goat. I don't know if it's nostalgia, but it's weird that I'll sell my M102 in a heartbeat but have to think twice about selling my Gotama. They're 20 years apart in technology and design. WTF? Why did the M102 both stoke me out and fail to win my heart at the same time?

Look, the M102 is a Gotama & a front-side carver combined. But I don't really front-side carve anymore. And if I want to front-side carve, I should probably focus on a front-side carver.

So, there's that. The M102 is a Jack-of-all-Trades, Master-of-None. While the Gotama is a lighter, more forgiving, Jack-of-all-Trades, Master-of-None.

Oh, and by the way, if you want a real next gen Gotama, I believe the HL FL105 is what you seek. Wood, fiberglass, rubber, no metal, no carbon. On paper it's a more-doable goat but a less finicky M102/K108 variant. Honestly, if we're gonna talk about the oldest ski we still ski, we should probably talk about what ski we'll probably ski forever. And for this genre of all-mountain that I'm discussing... fuck carbon and fuck metal. All those bonds break down over time. Carbon starts off noisy, and just becomes noisier. Metal bonding to wood eventually fails and the dampness is gone.

x2 on loving their fun-ness. Haul ass and so stable at speed. Just had them out Monday for ec “spring” groomer zooming. From like 1995? Also:

2007 og 186cm “soft” BGs but haven’t touched them in a couple seasons.

2009 (?) 184cm Hybrid Lotus 120s

2011 (?) 178cm Casair 85s Pure3 that I continue to be impressed by (tele groomer zooming). Also some 178cm Wailer 105s in a P3 construction but hardly ski them. Similar time frame. Carbon feel of the P3 is funky unless you’re skiing smooth snow. Hence the groomer focus and the lack of motivation to ski the 105 in typical ec variability and like my Wren quiver more in the 102-108 range.

2012 183cm Stormrider 110 tts

All else more modern I believe.
