That era of Gotama was one of my all time favorites. I was trying to google the other day to see if the mount point was as far back as current Volkl’s because I cant remember.

I still have a few oldies in use.
2002 dynastar super nobis still comes out for fast groomers.
2003 spatula still get used at least once a season for pow.
2003 dynastar og pro rider is still used regularly for low tide.
2007 volkl sanouk gets the nod for a couple pow days too.

old skis still have their place. Heavy and damp are not buzz words in ski design anymore.

Also, it'll be easier to sell the M102, for sure. But I laughed when I first skied the M102. I was like-- This is a fucking Gotama. Slightly refined, kinda, for hard snow performance, but really not at all better in soft snow. And for that slot in my quiver, which is basically skiing with the kids at this point, I can't find any reason for the M102. Every time I'm on trying to perform, I wish I was on the K108... but then HL released the R110 and now I completely get it.

The R110 will replace my M102 as my DD while my OG Gotama will become my dad ski. Only because it'll be easier to sell the M102.

Either that or I just don't have the heart to sell my OG Goat. I don't know if it's nostalgia, but it's weird that I'll sell my M102 in a heartbeat but have to think twice about selling my Gotama. They're 20 years apart in technology and design. WTF? Why did the M102 both stoke me out and fail to win my heart at the same time?

Look, the M102 is a Gotama & a front-side carver combined. But I don't really front-side carve anymore. And if I want to front-side carve, I should probably focus on a front-side carver.

    So, there's that. The M102 is a Jack-of-all-Trades, Master-of-None. While the Gotama is a lighter, more forgiving, Jack-of-all-Trades, Master-of-None.

Oh, and by the way, if you want a real next gen Gotama, I believe the HL FL105 is what you seek. Wood, fiberglass, rubber, no metal, no carbon. On paper it's a more-doable goat but a less finicky M102/K108 variant. Honestly, if we're gonna talk about the oldest ski we still ski, we should probably talk about what ski we'll probably ski forever. And for this genre of all-mountain that I'm discussing... fuck carbon and fuck metal. All those bonds break down over time. Carbon starts off noisy, and just becomes noisier. Metal bonding to wood eventually fails and the dampness is gone.

Have I typed too much yet?
    Are you drinking again?

2012 192 Black Diamond Zealot. Love these things. My quiver is bloated with more modern skis in the 110 range, I'm never disappointed when I grab these.

If I HAD to narrow my quiver to one ski, this would still be it.

no, not really. They are in the right conditions but not nearly as well rounded.

186 Sickle. Probably more days on it than any other ski I’ve ever owned. Although I’ve been skiing my Metals more on what would have been Sickle days recently. Less effective edge but softer flexing tips and tails.

Owned multiple pairs of metal 183-184 Katanas too. Man, that was a great ski for Little Cottonwood

2012 Dynastar LP 105 - still get used fairly frequently, anytime conditions get chalky / firm.
2012 Moment Deathwish - my "touring rock skis" - they usually get ~10 days early season
2012 Moment Belafonte - Don't get used too much these days, but usually come out for a few days of ripping through spring slush.

2012 Blizzard Bodacious- on my 3rd pair, gets the nod anytime its soft.

Picked up a minty pair of 2013 Cochise last fall that I've really been enjoying too.

Also have full camber 2008ish? mantras but I don't ski them often and some 4frnt Turbos that fill the rock ski slot of the quiver.

2010ish Katanas still get some love. 2006? Praxis Pow boards have been a few years, but given right conditions are phenomenal.

SuperBros for me. Still have a new unmounted pair waiting when the ones I use die, looking like they never will.

Still using some ~2011 Salomon Simon Dumont Pro Pipes with the leaf spring look. Fully cambered twin tips are super fun in the right conditions.

2014 PM Gear Lhasa Pow Carbon is still my daily driver for soft conditions. Such a fun ski, and the carbon seems to allow it to keep its pop for a long time. I don't think of it as an older ski, but I had them remounted this year and the 20 year old at the shop said something about my "older skis" and it made me feel like a grandpa.

2009(?) Worth Humpbacks (made by Praxis). It’s been a great ski for me and was a daily driver for ten years. Tip of the cap to those guys and Keith.

    * The only reason I’m not on them this year is because I left it in my friend’s garage in Revelstoke thinking I was going back shortly… and then it didn’t happen.

Guess i’ll have to make the trip sometime to reclaim them…
