Maggot Down - backcountry1pr
Eric Freson. This is a huge loss. It was an avalanche yesterday.
The CB/Gunny/WCU community is hurting right now, so I'll put up this thread all of those people who are so much closer to him can concentrate on themselves and their family, friends, and community.
Eric was a very good man, really damn smart, nice, caring, giving, and one hell of a ripper who mentored so many people and shared his skill and love and knowledge.
I don't want to go to work today. I want to go and look through all my old photos and remember that instead of this.
Many CB/Gunny mags on here were far closer with him, best friends even. It's a small community there and Eric helped make it. My deepest condolence to them and Eric's wife and family.
Please use this thread to share memories, photos, feelings. If you want to talk avi, we can have a thread in SLide ZOne.Originally Posted by blurred

Thanks for starting this. One of the most genuine human beings I've had the pleasure of knowing. As you said, he was a huge part of the community during my time in the valley. Kind of at a loss for words since I got the call last night.

Ah damn that sucks. Didn’t know Eric real well but yeah, great guy, super solid.
Thinking of his family and everyone close to him out there. There's nothing better than sliding down snow, and flying through the air

Son of a! Didn’t know him well but what a passionate, stoke filled individual and very welcoming to me when I got here. Our little community is definitely going to miss him. Thanks for posting this.

Fuck. Knew him through Blister, and spent a little time riding bikes with him. Great rider, and great guy. Just one of those guys that was calm, quiet, and fast. Never skied with him, but everyone that talked about him made it clear that he was a ripper.
Condolences to his family and the whole CB / Gunny crew.

Very sorry to hear this. From Summit's tribute here, and from other mutual friends elsewhere, he sounds like he was just an exceptional human being.
Much love to all those that knew him.

Well, not really sure what to say. Stuffed a beer in my pocket when I headed out this afternoon, figuring I'd sit on Sunset Ridge at closing time and have a moment. About a dozen other people thought the same and Armi flew his plane by, so that was nice.
I first met Eric when he was just a kid at Western- one of my first random TGR encounters. I kind of thought he was cocky at the time, which is funny now since he wasn't at all- and he was good at a lot of things. Not just skiing and biking, but kayaking and climbing and shed hunting and elk hunting and snowmobiling. He was smart and well spoken, too. He was on our non-profit board (Share the Slate, dedicated to keeping snowmobile access no matter what the winter wildlands assholes want), and I was always impressed when he spoke up at our meetings. He crafted his words carefully when he spoke.
I really didn't ride or ski with him that much. Which is weird, because everytime I went with him I'd think "I should do more stuff with Eric". He was a super solid partner, just look: https://www.instagram.com/p/C3QKUp1u4V_/
Not much else to say other than it sucks.
