Unfortunately have to work like a sucker this morning, heading up for the afternoon leftover powder shift. Thinking these Bad Larrys should do the trick...

Called back to Salida for issues with a rental from WC. Damn fine pow morning at Monarch. Ripped up the trees on Tumble whilst most stood in line at Gar. Maybe 10 laps till Pano opened which was most excellent till noon when I traded my helmet for a plumbers cap. Cracks running through the snow pack were wild. Super fun surfy untracked bottomless. Didn't hit a thing but def avoided some lines where I know sharks lurk.

The Malt Shoppe has some good burgers. Or at least used to, haven't been there in a few years

Monarch skied great yesterday, then closed for wind today. Damn. Now that there are only two dozen trees left on the whole mountain, I would expect the snow will be garbage for a while.

^^ I consider myself pretty well versed in CO/ ski history but must admit I didn't know there was a brief period of time when Monarch was Vail Pass.

I still need to get back there this season, just been out of the country for a bit + no snow for a while.

    I liked it.

Wasn't there another owner after JR that was reputably a drug dealer?

    Well Groomed

Great history lesson. The old posters with the Lange Girl vibe are cool. Maybe not now. Forgive me but Im old enough to remember my dad had the little giveaway dash calendars with all sorts of pinup models on them. The Wolf Creek story in Colorado Sun and this in last 2 days give me hope.

Took a lap through the new runs cut on the backside. Went with friends out the back country gate. Impressed with the terrain and potential. Steeper than I expected and lots of glade/tree skiing. Fair number of patrollers and snowcat working. Looks like the timber crew will have job security cleaning up the glades of beetle kill. Skiing overall will be improved significantly as the weekend crowds disperse and week days should be great for powder days.

Great to hear. I still want to bring the touring gear and get a lap back there to check it out this year. Just wish it would snow!
