Nonprofit Ski Area could use a hand if you have change for a nickel

Hi all, Friends of the Mountain has done great work keeping the ski area formerly known as Big Squaw Mountain in Greenville, Maine going. Although they don’t own the mountain, they have renovated the lower mountain base lodge, done essential maintenance on the upper mountain hotel, replaced the drive on the lower mountain chairlift, cleared the upper mountain trails (a chairlift accident has had the upper mountain neglected for two decades), and purchased a snowcat with seating to carry folks up to ski the upper mountain trails. A heavy rain storm destroyed the snow making pond a couple weeks ago leaving the mountain reliant on natural snow to run.

I know there are many nonprofit ski areas around the country. Friends of the Mountain has persevered through a failed purchase agreement where other buyers moved on. The mountain has some of the best views in the Northeast looking out over Moosehead Lake, Mount Kineo and Mount Katahdin. Back in the seventies it was a national powerhouse for freestyle skiing, just ask Greg Stump. If there’s a dentist out there that has grown to many corporate practices, the property includes a sandy shore deep pond, stables and frontage on Moosehead Lake to invest your winnings. For the rest of you maggots, any donation would be greatly appreciated to help keep the mountain going and encourage the Friends in their work. Happy to answer any questions for folks who might wish to tour there this Winter.
