Anyone done this? Looks like you need to trim both tip and tail and then install a BD kit for both ends or something like that. I guess no one has the stretchy tips anymore like we used to use before adjustable tails? Anyone have any great ideas?

If you have the length it’s easy. I have done both tips and tails. If you’re short, maybe a rat tail (never done) if you have flat tails.
I've done this in both directions - to go from BD tip loops to Dynafit thingamabobs and from Dynafit to tip loops. I prefer the Dynafit tips and would ask why you want to replace them. If it's to use the skins on skis without tip notches, I'd recommend just drilling tip notches, it's easy and has other benefits (e.g. making an emergency sled).
But, if you want to get rid of the Dynafit tips, here's the process i used. I splice extra material to the tip rather than dealing with a too-short skin and long tail attachment.
- Remove the metal cross bar from the Dynafit rubber thing (just push it out from the side), remove the rubber thing
- Cut off the entire tip right below the rivets (or you can remove the rivets by drilling them out, but you don't need to). You'll be left with skins that are too short (missing the first 6" or so of skin at the tip).
- To replace the material you cut off, just sew on another section of skin. Doesn't need to be the same skin or in good condition 'cause it'll barely touch the snow. You do want decent glue so it's not flapping around getting snow underneath. I just butt-jointed the two section of skin and sewed them with a very basic stitch. Sew at least a foot of material on... you don't want to be left without enough material. The skin can be much wider than the ski, you're going to recut it anyway, so don't worry about that. It can't be narrower, obviously. Make sure you don't do this backwards and put the skin hairs the wrong way.
- Put the tail clip to the middle of the adjustment range, put on your skins, figure out where you need the wire loop to be / how long the skins should be.
- Mark the point where you want the skin tips to end up, and fold it over. I'd check fit once more here. If all looks good, sew the overlapping section to capture the tip loop. Put a single piece of tape fully around the seam to protect the stitching. I just used a half-width section of gorilla tape.
- Put skins with new tips on skis, cut front spliced-in section of skin with a razor like you'd cut any other skin.
- For extra points, give yourself a "bikini" tip to remove extra weight that doesn't do anything.... mark where your ski makes contact with the snow when decambered. Everything in front of that point is just extra weight and can be cut away as long as you leave enough to capture the skin loop strongly (i.e. don't need the skin running to the edge on the shovel).
But really, don't overthink it...
My Pomoca tail clip is broken - what do you all consider the best tail clip to replace it with?
Black Diamond and g3 kits are pretty similar. I have used both and have a slight preference for bd
I been into Dynafits for awhile with the Stoke and then the Denali, I'm pretty sure i have used my BD skins on a stoke by just slipping the bar over that tip
i have never had a problem with the SS tail clips breaking cuz they seem pretty hardy but I think some of them were made of aluminium ??
Tip stretchers can be hard to source especially end of season so you can make new dynafit stretcher tips from a 2" aluminium roofing nail & a 3 feet of 3mm stretchy bungy
The roofing nail is the exact same size as the bar of the dynafit stretcher so just cut the head off and it clips in to the fitting on the tip of the skin
heat sear the ends of your piece of bungy, tie in a loop about the circumfrence of your thumb with a big double knot in the 2 ends so it doesnt slip thru the fitting on the tip of the ski
clip it into the slot with the nail and you got new tips for really cheap and it works just as well
I have reglued my pomocas with gold label and they work fine

Just to update in case anyone else is interested. For the tails, we just added a bd tail kit.
Tips: push out pin holding rubber tip in, remove rubber tip, cut horizontal notch in dynafit tip and a BD tip slides right in there. Couldnt be easier, but these are older skins. The new speedskin tip is different.
