I'd bet gloves made with less abrasive fibers aren't that different than bare hands. And I suspect nitrile gloves are better than bare hands. I also doubt that wetting your hands does a damn thing (I do it anyway because it if easy). I think we do a lot of guessing on this issue. But I'm pretty sure it would be good if we all touched trout less. I've been taking fewer fish pics, and the ones i do take are more often in net or in water. Of course, I do this after putting a hole in their face...

back from three days fishing the Siberian peasant's backyard and visiting old hang outs.
more pints were drank than fish caught (I suck at fly fishing)
fall colors were spectacular and the trip delivered everything I went for ....

okay sorry folks I'm on mobile and having a baby means that I have started writing this post like half a dozen times and just abandoned it. I'm good at short posts but not long ones I guess

want to give a huge shout-out to this community and the incredible people in it - l8APX, plugboots, underroos, and SUF especially. because of y'all i have been so blessed to have so much meaningful time on the water - even if, lately, that usually means ducking out for an hour or two when the grom is asleep and i can go chuck meat. means a ton to me.

i keep trying to pick up a big trophy brown on my local water to pay these incredible mags back with some cool stoke, but the (river) streamer bite has been a little slow lately. thank God the bwo's have been making up for it

good to see bobmc and his grom (pictured behind Sheldon swimming) on a killer day of stillwater fishing (we got probably around 70 to the boat, with a bunch of super aggressive follows and eats right at the surface) and ofc always amazing to get out and fish with SFB, who is an absolute treasure to this community

    thanks y'all

    funny thing about Lake Roosevelt:
    I never catch 8" rainbows,
    or 10" rainbows,
    or 12" rainbows.
    always the 14-20" class ....
    mind you, I'm not complaining,
just wondering where all the small fish went

They didn't go anywhere; they're still at the hatchery. A quick search sez Roosevelt is primarily stockers and they are triploid.

Yesterday I made it down to the river late, and realized I had left my rod and reel at home, and so I went back to get it, trying not to kick myself too hard, so I could enjoy what was left of the day on the river. A short moment after I hooked a nice 13"er, I realized I had managed to get my rod without making sure nothing else was missing, like my camera. I decided to just enjoy catching the inevitable lunker which could sense my lack of a camera, and that part of the evening came soon. Said lunker was THICK and just under 18", you'll just have to take my word for it, it was a beast! I also caught another beauty, which wasn't quite so large, but the evening went quite well, seven fish in under three hours.

Today I got a late start, as I first filled out my absentee ballot, and pedaled over to the election center to deliver it in person. I was again in a sore state, and the fish weren't biting. As I walked between spots, I met another fisherman who shared his tale of a big one that got away. I wished him luck in getting a bigger one, and continued to the next spot.

Once there, a number of fishes mocked me by rising within ten feet of where I stood, fruitlessly throwing a double Pat's rig. I swapped out to an October caddis with one of ISBD's cripplers attached, neither of which I could see most of the time, but I did manage to pull the crippler away from a fish which gave it a try. I was getting very frustrated, blindly trying to see the invisible, and swapped out again, this time putting on one of ISBD's tung-headed stones, with a jig-headed zebra midge nymph trailer.

It took a little while, but the stone did the trick, and the bubble was yanked abruptly beneath the surface. The wily trout fish tricked me, by running straight at me, to the extent that I thought it must be a very small fish, as I furiously stripped in line. I was just fast enough to keep him hooked, then he ran, and jumped, giving me the lift I needed sorely on a gloomy day. It started raining, and facts being that I did not have a shell with me, nor was I getting any more bites, I departed home to write this fishing story. The end.

    The triploids are common knowledge,
a bit depressing to think the only fish left in the pool are pellet-fed pen-freaks

    streamer season is here

no huge fish but the boy went down for a nap and I had an hour to kill, had quite a few grabs and was stoked to see these two make it to the net

Yeah, from what I read, the walleye will probably prevent the red bands from making a meaningful recovery.

Thanks man, and BTW, that is a fantastic sunset pic, I mean Holy !

After getting the shopping done, I headed for the river. Today, I woke up in an uncharacteristically happy mood, and the day was cool and sunny. It rained last night a bit so I rigged a red beadhead worm/ coffee Pat's rubberlegs combo. I'd caught an hudge fish the day before yesterday on the worm, and Pat's have been very good this fall. This turned out to be a very good choice, as I soon caught a couple of foot long rainbows on the worm.

Then I caught a 15" Brown trout on the Pat's, however, do to my tremendously gentle grasp, the brown escaped before I could shoot the pic. I lamented the missed photo op, as I so rarely catch brown trout, but my mood remained good, and I headed downstream to redemption, again the worm did its job.

Utilizing my lightning fast snag hooking skills, I caught two whitefish on the worm, one hooked in the belly, and one in the tail. Then, after moving upstream to the usual whitefish schooling zone, I failed to catch a whitefish, but the worm came through on yet another nice troutfish.

I under-dressed for the first time this fall, but caught a few fish along with the chill, including a big fat whitefish, but sadly, no big trout.
