Need to find OTG Goggles with huge clearance

I posted this in the cataract thread, but I have a family member getting cataract surgery in a few days. They are mid 50s, so it's super early. The new lenses tech is UV adjustable - you implant the lens then shoot it with UV light over the course of a few treatments and a few weeks to perfectly dial it in. No UV light get get to your eyes during that period, and they have ski trips planned. The light blocking glasses they give you are big wrap around ones. I am trying to find over the glasses googles that can cover these big ass wrap around glasses so they can ski.

Who makes the largest clearance over-the-glasses goggles?

Here's the full post if you are interested:

Bolle has a few OTG goggles out there. Now discontinued X500 series is replaced with some other models, but the X500 seem to be also the series that the Tactical Goggles are made with, usually with just clear lenses in them.

https://www.bolle.com/us/snow/snow-g...glasses--otg-/ for the current different models.

I've used Giro OTG for 6 years and they fit well enough despite my thick as fuck head.

As was said in the other thread. Reschedule for the spring.
High altitude has even more UV radiation. Not to mention snow reflection.

Wait three months and do it right.

PS. That other thread said wear the glasses inside unless sleeping. That’s some serious advice. Just a brief blast of high altitude UV may ablate the entire lens and ruin the whole point of the surgery and UV precise fine tuning.

You guys are kinda missing the point. Doc is telling them it’s fine to go. They want to go. I ain’t changing any of that whether I want to or not. I already brought that up. Now just trying to help out with logistics and insert extra caution and get thoughts from people that have knowledge on the specifics. Sounds like at least a couple people have skied on trips successfully in the same situation.

The biggest goggle I ever had was the smith otg with the fan.
Had to buy that mid trip when I had a corneal abrasion and couldn’t wear contacts. It would fit over anything.
They stoped making them for some reason. The fan was bonus for sweaty hiking.
There are super cheap otg even with fans on Amazon. Could buy several and return whatever doesn’t fit at Whole Foods.

PS. I assume the UV glasses are wraps. In which case any XL frame goggle should work. The problem with otg is a regular eyeglass with a flat front. It’s the right angle corners that poke the goggle lens.

I had 2 pair, they were big and the fan worked pretty well but the battery pack would fall off the strap ( secure it with broccoli elastic ) was so fucking cheap that the fan didnt work for very long and instead of a plugable/ easily replaceable battery pack Smith hard wired it in, so i gave up on the fan working but it was still a pretty good OTG goggle that would fit over a large framed Rayban so maybe Smith got tired of people complaining their fan had shit the bed or more likely didn't care ?

the fan did make a bit of noise, we were sitting on a pass in the middle of nowhere looking out over burnie glacier on a blue bird day far from civilization when the guy sitting next to me sez " wtf is that noise ?" its my fan man

Different path, but my wife wears glasses only and picked up a Smith Survey(I think?) that have the built in goggle/fighter pilot style. They fit far better than any other OTG option she’s ever tried. Actually noticed two people skiing w glasses and those helmets today. They look a bit wonky, but they work pretty well.

The old people wrap around sun glasses might work and not break the bank.

I have a helmet with the exposed pull down visor, finding that it works better on mild days with and with out sun glasses. Bitter cold temps and wind from skiing make goggles a must, for me.

I just restored the face and frame foam on older Bolle OTGs that are the best flat light lenses i have ever used.

If they’re going anyway, why start the thread? Doc says it’s okay. Wear the wrap around or a goggle with good UV protection.

This is kinda like the thread that xyz started wanting to buy someone health insurance that didn’t ask for help. Are your friends asking for help with specifics about goggles?

Yes. Looking for the largest clearance OTG goggles.

Going to go to the shop today and basically try everything on. Thought maybe someone had some model ideas.

I have a few pair of Bolle that are still good except the foam on the vent area. Can I ask where you sourced the foam and a bit about the process and glue etc. you used.

I've been thinking maybe the AC filter foam, but not sure if it is thin enough.

I vote for one of those ridiculous ruroc full face helmets. No idea about whether they work with glasses. Just duct tape the lense and cut two tiny slits for peep holes.

I had got thin, 1/8” foam rubber sheets that were padding in a package. Cut to fit tight and held in with a bit of duct tape on each end.

I used super glue on the face foam which works better than i thought it would. Could probably use it for the foam around the frame top and bottoms as well.

The face foam gasket is for a paintball mask, had to trim it to fit.

    Good luck!

I am thinking the 3M spray glue on the foam for the vents. Wish I could find something like the mentioned packing foam...
