Maybe all this fake bullshit AI will encourage (or require?) people to speak in-person instead of all this fake “connecting” online and/or by video call?

    If this is real. Woah.

So maybe we will have nothing to complain about in the hercules wife thread really soon

Or in the tipping thread. But maybe we'll need a big unemployment thread in 2-5 years instead of the expected 20.

I'm still Routing for a World like in "the creator" and not Terminator.

This is logistically impossible above a certain size. As an example - average meeting for some functions for me involve one guy from europe, one from the midwest, me in new england, then 2 other plains states people in different spots and another new england person in a different state. All overseen by a different person from Europe.

Anytime we want to get together in person, at least half the team loses 2 travel days in the process.

As someone with more than passing knowledge of the tech and the capabilities - good to see some level-headed takes on what it will take to move things forward. I think his words aren't always backed up by his actions, but you get deep enough into the reality of the data of the world and you tend to see a lot people differently. Definitely wouldn't qualify him as a "good" person at this point, but definitely is realistic about the current state of things.

^I think we are still a decade or two away from any real use cases of robots replacing humans except in small or fixed roles where we already have them in place.

Amazon has been working on this for over a decade and the problem isn't the robot processing power, it's the maintenance and backend support that keep it from being implemented. Overall just more hype to boost the stock.

    Now this has potential.

You do know that general intelligence AI is predicted to catch up to human brain power before the end of the decade, right? This shit is progressing faster than anyone predicted.

These robots ain't gonna need to be too smart to replace Gen Z workers as they are the dumbest motherfuckers this planet has seen.

There are certainly aspects of Kurzweil's vision for the future of humanity that I don't necessarily welcome, but he's been predicting that artificial intelligence would overtake human intelligence in 2029 since 1999. At the time just about everyone else in the field said "never" or 100+ years, and they've all been slowly revising their estimates downward ever since and have largely coalesced around the same estimate. Given the current pace of advancement I'm more inclined than not to think he's correct.

It will be years of building the backend before then. Nivida leading and Intel following after a $100 Billion injection from the Chip Act need to build the brain before it can be programmed.
