    Shogun (reboot on FX)

One of my favorite novels. I’ve watched the original 9 hour series from 1980 on Blu Ray.

In February 2024 the reboot will be released on FX. I have high hopes!

That’s a story I hadn’t thought of for awhile. Only vaguely remember the show. My father had Shogun, King Rat, and Tai-Pan in the library. Read them well before a preteen is old enough to grasp all the nuances. Look forward to seeing the release.

I’ve read Shogun a couple times - once as a kid and once before first going to Japan.

Read Tai-Pan (#2 in the series) before visiting Hong Kong.

Now I have Gai-Jin on deck to read before going back to Japan in February. Gai-Jin is apparently the longest and the least well reviewed of the Asia Saga.

Amazon has a nice set of them with spines that line up (except for in their photo they have them reversed)

Badass. One of my all-time favorite books.

I'm in. Just started S2 of Tokyo Vice and finished Sanctuary a couple of weeks ago. Can't get enough of this, I need to visit Japan.

If you read books I’d highly recommend reading the novel - I’ve read it 3 times.

One of the greatest scenes ever was the Samurai whipping out his dick and pissing all over the prostrated westerner

Bring on the head chopping and seppuku!

Boorman made some great films. Hell in the Pacific is one of them.

Makes me a little sad to say this, but I'm liking Hiroyuki more than Toshiro (gasp!) as Lord Toranaga.
Jury's still out on the new Blackthorn.

New Blackthorn is kind of annoying. Seems like he is trying to out chew Chamberlain when it comes to his scenes

Feels like a lot of gaps in what’s taking place. Trying to cover to much in a less time than the 80s version used

The scenes w Toranaga front and center are far superior to all the others. He’s super compelling. Not sure the show would hold my interest if not for him

    Out-chew?!?
I'm actually thinking he's not stepping up enough.
But yes on Toranaga. ...... as it should be.
Hoping Mariko starts to exert her personality soon.

    Shogun (reboot on FX)

Mariko asserted. Meow. But will he get the three with her and the consort ?!?

Quite the canon fodder at the end too!

A very good show. I like the way Japanese is spoken by Japanese actors portraying people with agency, although I gotta say Portuguese sounds a lot like English.
