as a kid, and a reluctant member of the track and field team, I had access to a .22 caliber “starter pistol“. member them? that very loud gun pop that motivated yer ass of them starting blocks? … so, idiot buddy shows up one day with some .22 caliber teargas shells, asking if I got anything we could shoot them with. course, I said yeah and handed over that there starter pistol. We stick one shell the chamber and pointed out the car window at some fucking wall that we thought was gonna be good enough fer safety… and pulled the trigger, completely forgetting, of course, that a starter pistol does not actually have a “barrel“. Therefore, instead of the minute amount of teargas, going forward and annoying somebody in front of us, it quickly dispersed out of the sides of the revolver, into the eyes of the shooter and any other close by idiots in the car… much hilarity did ensue.

    fact.

And this guy was obsessed with Cycads. It's all he talked about, his collection, how it was going to be worth millions, everything about the plants. It was non-stop. Interesting guy.

    A few devils advocate points:
-are we too lenient with rich white kids, or are we just too harsh with poor brown kids? Should all college aged kids be given such leniency to screwup, or should we crack down harder?
    .
The people who write, enforce & stand in judgement over the laws always have and always will treat people who look/act/ were brought up like them more leniently than the "other" this is exactly what Dan is saying. When we contnue to let those people write, enforce, & stand in judgement of the lwas this will continue to happen

& my college days were somewhere in between that enterprise and the gents Dan mentions.

being president of my Fraternity and IFC president gave me a lot of early leadership & dealing with process & beuracracy experience that helped me a lot.

My Fraternity was also local at a small school and very diverse. We had Jocks, student leaders, & the highest GPA on campus and our membership while I was there was gay, straight, Jewish, muslim, black, hispanic, & WASPy.
So dont paint all Greeks with the same brush, although I can say from my short stint @ Vandy that Southeastern Greek Life is a very different thing than what I lived in California

I agree. I think that instead of ending the benefit of the doubt that the white rich kids enjoy, i would prefer to extend that benefit of the doubt to all. Especially for folks in the 16-24 age range where we all do dumb shit.

IBM used to give us a cash advance to go on courses, cuz I had an MJ connection in Toronto that was cheaper than the going rate in Vangroovy I would put all my expenses on Visa and buy Dope with the cash which I would sell in Vangroovy for a profit, I think Hunter S Thompson did something similar when he wrote Fear & Loathing

eventualy IBM figured it out that they could just give everyone a card
