Sun is the worst. But even storing for five years causes a loss of stretchiness. Hot car storage is brutal

Otoh the new rubbers seem not to get as stiff as the shit from decades ago.

And aquaseal for any seam leaks. Ghetto goo is the surf equivalent of ski duct tape.

And the enzyme cleaners work great. The stuff at pet stores costs way less and cuts thefunk

I'll add some care notes.

Bring a gallon of water in the car when you go surfing. Warm feels the best. Rinse your suit and body after a surf.

When you get home, give your suit a good rinse and hang it up to dry.

I do not hang by the shoulders but instead drape the legs and wrap around the hanger. This avoids putting pressure on the shoulders and having the neoprene wear quickly there.

Hang out of the sun. As soon as it is done actively dropping, I hang it in the garage where it is stored.

And never pee in the suit. Ammonia is bad for neoprene. Last place you want dry rot is in your crotch.

Pulled the trigger on a Colby +. I’m sold on the Yamamoto rubber (what feral uses) and it’s the same group of people from need essentials (they left from a lawsuit). Feral didn’t have my size and Colby was $100 cheaper. Reviews seem good. I’m excited to not have numb legs after 30 mins.

Update after a winter of surfing almost daily in the Feral 3mm suit. I've been super impressed with how warm and flexible this suit has remained all winter. After 70+ sessions there's no visible wear and tear and it actually fits better than when I purchased it. Despite a winter of colder than normal water temperatures (mid to upper 50s), I have yet to wear booties and I've only gotten cold a handful of times during really slow sessions with extended periods of sitting. Highly recommend, 10/10.
