Not sure if you saw this but they have bc access tickets as well. $41 to ride Judah and head out or $61 to get out via Lincoln. I don't know if those change with advance online purchase or not. It's kinda spendy but if you're going to a hut with a heavy pack maybe it's worth it.

That is spendy by my standards, considering you can skin up from behind the old ASI in about an hour or so…unless those tickets get you some inbounds access, as well

    Schralpine Ghettos snow-making thoughts:

    • Kangaroo used to be the "easy" early season option for AM so it usually got the first snowmaking
    • When TLC went in it somewhat made sense to move the first round of snowmaking to highlight the new chair. That made marketing sense. Also there's a pretty good cold pool of air there.
    • For the 20-21 season they added 13 new automated fan guns along Weasel that really bumped up the ability to make a lot of snow

For this season, there is an older compressor that is currently down, which cuts compressed air availability about in half until fixed. Thats pretty much explains why they have not started Roundhouse yet. Pretty sure they will move there soon.

We're weekend warriors at this point so as much as I'd love to do midweek, its just not in the cards.
I didnt look that closely at your links. Shooting Stars and Mountain Rangers are great programs, but designed for folks that will be skiing both days on the weekend, every week. They aren't really lessons. They are ski programs: same kids, same instructors every week.

How old are your kids? My 6 year old is a Mighty Mite. My 10 year old is Big Mountain. I'm a Big Mountain coach. We're midweek.

I might be able to answer questions if you have them.

Totally agree. That's the cost of laziness, I guess. It's a nice skin up past Lake Mary and around the side of Judah.

I have a SB pass. Outside of that, I would never pay for a single lap. Take a nice walk.

Looking forward to some lake laps!!

Wait, that’s for a single bump? That’s insane. Are you sure? Can’t tell from SB’s website.

^the cut and paste is pretty cut and dry from https://www.sugarbowl.com/backcountry
    Up-and-Out Backcountry Access:

We also offer an Up-and-Out ticket for those who want to access the backcountry but would prefer to skip the first skin up. Up-and-Out tickets are only available for purchase at the Judah Ticket windows which open at 8:00am. Up-and-Out tickets will not be available for purchase if backcountry gates are closed by Ski Patrol due to conditions.

$41 Single-Scan Up-and-Out Ticket (No lift access) - This ticket is only valid for one gate scan, use it wisely. Suggested lift would be Mt. Judah Express.

$61 Two-Scan Up-and-Out Ticket (No lift access) - This ticket is valid for two gates scans. This allows the user to ride Jerome Hill Express to Mt. Lincoln Express, or two laps on Mt. Judah Express.

maybe if you're heading to a hut and it's raining at the base it could be worth it?

My daughter is 5 but is very much a beginner. Last year she got a lot more confident on the magic carpet at alpine and we are looking at options to boost her confidence and skills. We’re down in the Bay Area so limited to weekends. A friend of ours is letting us use their place in December but we don’t have a consistent option for housing the rest of the season.

My kids both started at Tahoe Donner. It's a very low key vibe, but maybe not the best option if you want to get out and ski while your kid is in lessons.

If you're committed to getting there on the weekends the Palisades programs are fantastic. Your kid will get more out of skiing with the group consistently rather than occasional lessons with different instructors.

I think I would push for the Alpine side if you can get in. I like the flow of that mountain for little people. Less crossing zones and no mountain run to contend with.

Yea, the saturday program at Alpine was booked for beginners so we are doing sundays at Palisades for the next three weeks. After that we will probably get a four pack of lessons and go from there. What's recommendation with regards to tipping the instructor(s). I understand it's not an easy job but I also have no idea how many instructors there are.

My kids have done weekend Shooting Stars, Mighty Mites, Devo & Big Mountain...all are great but learn the most in Devo. The best part is skiing around the mountain and randomly seeing your kids where you wouldn't expect...say The Slot for example haha.

I would have been there, but I didn't have reservations.

I wonder how that's going to work out for the corporation?

People who didn't make reservations not going to the mountain on a day they maybe would have, leading to below normal attendance.

I guess that's good for the people who do make reservations, private ski resort...

Where the paid reservations use to be is now the section for vehicles with 3+ people. By late morning they were letting whoever park there.

How far in advance do you have to reserve? Not busy now, so make reservation in morning, and head on up. No?

The number of reservations available is equal to the amount of parking spaces they have, so you could have made a reservation in the morning. The reservations are free, unless you want to guarantee a spot way ahead of time, like if you have a vacation booked during a busy week. Also not sure how that is going to affect parking on the road, as I can't see that being part of their parking inventory that can be reserved, and it's technically illegal but somehow CHP and the county have let it slide. In any case, they aren't going to miss out on much money, you already paid, and for the most part the only people getting turned away are the ones that wouldn't have been able to park anyway. I much prefer first come first served, but I'm pretty sure if you know how to play the game you will be able to ski any day without much problem, with or without a reservation.

I don’t think that’s true. They would still love to charge you $20 for a beer and another $20 for a hamburger.

Tahoe '23/'24 - Reserve Now For Best Pricing!!!

Brown bagging it with a PBR in your pocket is the kind of skier they are trying to keep away. Except for my cookie pass and a few pitchers in the spring time I spend as little $ as possible at the mtn.
