Who's the go-to person or place for custom footbeds? If there's someone in Reno, that'd be nice and convenient, but anywhere around Tahoe is fine too.
Mrs C needs some new ones.
Decided to go to Sierra instead of Bear Valley since it was close and looked like it had more interesting terrain. Hoped the SB would keep the crowds down, and with nothing to compare it too it was about like I expected.
Groomers were fast and held up all day, which surprised me for how warm it was. Off piste was a mixed bag of punchy wind blown, but some fun lines could definitely be found. The wide open bowls with random rock formations and stumps everywhere was really unique, and must really be a challenge when visibility sucks. Kind of like being above treeline with some random grooming.
All around it was a pretty good day and warm sunshine in Feb was awesome, will definitely have to find a way to make it down to Tahoe in the future.
On the topic of footbeds, anyone have opinions on the Heel Loc ones from Olympic Bootworks?
Have had a great experience with my Superfeet Custom insoles from Tahoe Sports Hub. Got them ~4 years ago.
I’ve had custom insoles from both Tahoe Sports Hub and SureFoot at OV. Both were great. The Hub is definitely more economical.
A little OT, but anyone know what's up with the Strawberry Lodge on 50? Thought I heard it sold awhile back, and it's all fenced in with a construction trailer parked out front. Hopefully someone does something cool with it.
If you're looking for racer oriented performance then I would say Start Haus.
Olympic Bootworks make more comfortable footbeds than most shops that focus on having deep heel cup. Really comfortable while keeping my feet locked in, I use them for touring.
I wouldn't hesitate to go to Sports Hub either.
My Olympic Bootworks footbeds have a deeper heel cup and are torsionally stiffer than other custom footbeds I’ve had in the past. Whether that makes a difference, I’m not sure, but they did take a take or two to adjust to, and now I suspect it’d be hard to move away from them with the extra support my foot has gotten accustomed to.
I tend to notice a bit of discomfort at the beginning of tours when using them due to the arch support beyond what my foot expect when moving around, but it magically clears itself up during the tour.

1 min of the fun also 2 Saturdays ago at OV. U16 training was cancelled so my 15 year old and I got a fun pow morning after those convective snow showers dropped 15" up top instead of the expect 4-6". Love that surprise pow when it happens.

Travel on Sunday was maybe up to the lookout on a secret not to be spoken about peak maybe near a highway with a run down the west bowl.
NW face was variable boot top unconsolidated and wind-jacked catch and release crust. Meh. Return down the south side at about 3:00 p.m., started as supportable and soft and tending towards mush at the bottom, although it was not producing any roller balls. Pleased the access road, which may exist or may not, was covered from trail head. Saw one other skier from a distance making a mystery descent from a sub-peak on the ridge to the west of the lookout, which might not really exist, towards the N.W./to a road that might be near a highway(?), and 4 snowmo'ers back at the trail head who said they covered 40 miles in 6 hours. The slide video from Saturday posted in the SAC observations in the steep complex NW terrain of the "east bowl" was "interesting." Kudos for posting and glad all were ok. Surprised to learn secret not to be spoken about peak is outside the forecast area.

…and we usually refrain from talking about that zone on this forum![]()
It’s funny what is considered a secret around here sometimes. Maybe we need a super double secret probation rating scale?
It’s a parking thing.
Well shit, that's not even Tahoe, take it to another thread.
