Yes, you are right; I could.
Problem is I care a great deal about how my images are presented—especially if someone is going to bother to print it. I work with specific printshops who can handle a color-managed workflow. Most (inexpensive) 3rd party services cannot do that; instead they often alter colors based on certain standards of how light or dark a scene is supposed to be. That works particularly poorly with snowy shots. (I also care about how it's framed, too )
Most of the work I print for people is 25-60" on the long dimension. Not all print services can handle that. This stuff has IMPACT when printed huge.
Kind of makes me sad when it is (mostly) viewed 2"x2" on small screens, but the advantage is more folks get to see it I guess. Much of that impact and the detail is lost. So it goes.
Thank you! Insane day today, too!
I do paid work for brands. I'm not super interested in the low cost stuff. It's a bunch of effort for people who mostly prefer to get things for free — just a sign they don't value the art the way I do. Our values aren't aligned and that's OK....
Lose money but make up for it in volume (hah!) is not my approach.
Mostly I just enjoy time in the mountains, taking photos of my partners, and providing stoke.
My partner today:
I like this image because it isn't the hockey-stop, basket-pointed-at-the-sun trend that tried to trick the viewer into thinking conditions are deeper than they are. Even though I'll never meet most people who see my work, I want to respect their intelligence.
My mentors put emphasis on a quiet upper body and the pole plant. Seems to be a bit of a lost art. Times change!
Was nuking when these shots were taken (here's a view from further away)... shooting through that much snow always means less clarity.

Just got back in town (Driggs) after 10 days teaching up in Haines. Burly drive home from the airport in IF- drifting and windy on the way to Swan Valley. Getting home- there is SO much new snow. Shads of the last two Februaries in terms of snowbank sizes! And it looks like 11" on the R Bowl plot since 1100, and 7.5" at the Mile Marker 12 station on the pass. Only 3 at Chief Joe. Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow...
Happy March, friends!

379" as of this morning. 9" @ Raymer since 11a.
12" in the next 12h brings us to 400 on the year (from 300 to 400 in 18 days, by my count).
Have we ever had multiple 20+ in 24h days in a season? I'm not remembering any off the top.

You're way more skilled and into the photo world than I, so you have probably considered this... and I've regretted even engaging at all on photo-stuff before, but I've had a few beers so here goes...
I see that you use the photo attachment method here on the TRGz. Have you considered hosting them elsewhere and using bulletin board "IMG" tags? You can post them in a variety of sizes if you want, and they show up better on both web and app view as it's embedded rather than an attachment.
When I looked into this in 2015, I was pissed at the TGR photo uploader and wanted to find an alternate to the evil photobucket, and had abandoned facebook and would soon delete instagram, too. I landed on Flickr of all places, for this reason:
With the BBCode, you can embed the image link and select the display size, and ALSO erase the portion of the URL that links back to your account. You might not desire this but I didn't want a way for folks to get to my albums, as I also use it as cloud storage for images of my family and all sorts of random shit.
to demonstrate, I'll use a mediocre image from Snowbowl.
here's what the "sharing" screen looks like (loaded as an attachment here, as the black bar at the bottom shows):
I'll choose one of the small sizes first. If I just copy/past the whole link, it'll look like this (except I'm changing the link to hide my shit and it is behaving weird with the alteration but whatever):
[url=xyz[/url] by [url=https://www.flickr.com/dontlookmeup[/url], on Flickr
but if I delete the text outside the "img" tags and choose a larger size (1024x680, which I usually share as it's not annoyingly big), it looks like this :
1600x 10xx is as big as the TGR page will display in the blue page boundary:
These embedded images all appear the same size on the mobile app but scale on the web view.
If you leave the link on the text string, folks can nav to your page and view the full pop image, 4000x6000 or whatever and you're not forced to downrez for the uploader.
anyway, sorry for the sidebar here... thought I'd just toss this into the fray in case it was new to you or anyone else. Please keep posting amazing imagery. Fuck I wish we had that kinda snow around here.... been a record low year.
cheers

I use the evil photo bucket. Started on their platform years ago and just haven't been motivated enough to change.
As serious as UAN takes his photography, surprised he's not already using a host service.
Oh well, carry on. This thread rocks.

Well, kids, I sure picked an awesome two years to be sidelined!
Glad to see you are all having fun. Been gone for a month, guess I better fire up the snowblower. Or charge up the batteries!Forum Cross Pollinator, gratuitously strident

23/24 WYDAHO * " Le Tits now " * JH, GT, SK, KC, PC...
Another flickr user here. I agree that photos viewed on the web browser have the largest impact (to me) when posted as norseman specifies above. Swimmy may be on a different hosting platform but has figured out how to post his photos the same way.
Anyway, will be looking for mags in the tram line this morning. Should be good…

My sources said broken leg, female.
Found "pretty good" conditions today, with varied light.
Consistent untracked snow from top:

Epic day. No hockey-stop slashes... just straight ahead, old school face shots.
You can definitely tell we are in March, though. A zipper crust was already forming from just a short blip of sun — nothing we skied, but we crossed some of it.
Hope everyone had a fun day!
