We were up in Great Basin National Park a few weeks ago. It's both one of the most astronomy focused parks in the US and directly in the path. Everything has been booked up there for a long time.
We were considering driving up to the area of maximum coverage, but there are some other things going on that weekend that might bake it hard. We're still in the 80% I guess.
I'm going to be on the White Rim trail for this, couldn't have planned it any better!

I'm just hoping this eclipse brings about a bunch of scary creatures from the depths like in Pitch Black. Prolly shouldn't get my hopes up tho.![]()
Yeah, I saw the annular about a decade ago near Lassen in California. It's cool, but definitely well short of book-a-flight cool. Totality is the real deal.
I'll be in California for the 75% experience; a crescent sun and dropping two F-stops isn't bad.
Probably a lot, but it is an attraction to a lot of astronomy nerds, so maybe less than you'd think. The Great Basin Star Train (which is - as it would seem - a train that takes you around with park rangers looking at stars ) is also booked up a year in advance.
Also, random plug for the Great Basin region. It's not super spectacular in a Yosemite/Zion sense, but just a really cool, wild, empty and relatively unexplored region of the US. I love it.
I drove to Nevada for that one. Buddy had a solar telescope, so we looked at sunspots before the ring eclipse. As the sun faded, I found it interesting to feel the sun's heat diminish, before my eyes noticed less light. As the eclipse progressed, it became notably darker. Saw the ring in the telescope, then we ate pizza and beer. Good times.
I've yet to experience totality. Back's too messed up now for long travel, so I missed the Oregon excitement 5ish years ago.
Anyone been to Mazatlan in the last few years/recently? If so, how was it? Feels like it fell off the resort radar and got sketch, but honestly no idea.
The town is smack dab in the middle of 100% totality and after seeing the last one in BFE Wyoming desert I could see it also being pretty epic on a Mexican beach.
Considering it but doubt it will happen.

The MX cruise options for 2024 are pretty sick, but many are quite lengthy (14-21 days)
We are heading to Burlington VT and hoping for the best.
Lift served totality turns will be an option, but the coolest kids will be in the High Peaks getting rad.

I can see totality for the April one from my house.
Four minutes of “total annular eclipse” is 2 hrs from me so assuming the weather is clear next Sat. will prolly get up early and head down to see it.
Had three mins of totality in my back yard for the 2017 full eclipse
The 2017 eclipse blew my mind. Was in the Winds at 12000ft., highest point in the whole country directly on the center line.
Definitely going to travel for the eclipse next April. Thinking somewhere around Bloomington, Indiana since its not far from my family.
There is one in August 2027 in Egypt that's going over the pyramids, but the average high temperature is something like 120 degrees.
I’m gonna head over the hill and ride bikes at Phil’s World and wear silly glasses and stare at the sky on Saturday morning. Should be cool.

I'll be rolling through the path on the way to AZ, planning to stop somewhere and watch.
We watched the 2017 one with some friends in BFE Wyoming, near their home town. It was pretty awesome. The April 2024 one goes through my hometown in Ohio, but not sure if I'll make the trip. Tough to justify a trip to Ohio in April.
Totality at the pyramids would be beyond what I can even comprehend as awesome. The 2017 eclipse totally blew my mind. If you haven’t experienced totality, well it’s just mind bogglingly cool.

I'm thinking Bryce Buckskin Gulch or Boulder . I have seen enough 100% annular (ring of fire) and total eclipses in my life to know that both are equally awesome, if you are at the right place. Don't let the nay sayers discourage you. Get your proper Soluna glasses (no chromapop does not work), crank some Johnny Cash and enjoy mother nature in all her glory

In 2017 we drove to Idaho and watched the total from a summit in the White Clouds. It was fucking rad.
I'm expecting this one won't be as rad, but should still be pretty neat? I don't have to do anything more complicated than walk out my door to see it, so that's sweet.
