I've tried graphite powder lock lube, and it didn't work for me in ski box locks - water still got in and froze the locks. I think the reason light grease or heavy oil works is because it resists being displaced by water.

I've tried regular thick grease and it got kinda gummy, a little too thick in cold weather.

IME any water in the box freezes so I would just pull the big chunks of ice out
