Verizon use in Spain and Portugal

Anyone have recent experience using Verizon in Spain and Portugal ? Look s like they have the "unlimited-unlimited plan" that includes data/text/call as part of the plan or pay $10/day or $100 month. I can't seem to get very clear answers chatting with them to clarify what is up with the offerings. Lot of dentists and Italian loafer wearing jet setters here to get some beta for a bottom dweller like me.

I like Google Fi for the international roaming. No experience with Verizon and honestly, I don't want experience with Verizon.

I've done the $100 a month unlimited with Verizon recently (2x) without any problems. I hated paying them, but it worked flawlessly.

Depending on your plan you may be storing up "free" international days. I remember that you had to remember to activate daily and it might max out at 12 saved for your use. Check you plan or chat online with them. If this exists for you, a combo of it and the $10/day might workout cheaper.

I was leaning that way and saw the "unlimited unlimited" plan at $40 line/month and the CS via chat said it includes international data/talk/text with the plan. I just have a hard time believing it and was seeing if anyone had used it.

If you're open to other options, look at Airalo. Data-only e-SIM is very, very cheap, easy to use in specific countries or regions. I used it around Europe this year, something like $13 for 5gb over a 30-day window. Mrs C could hotspot onto my phone too.

Google Fi does exactly that. Airplane lands, switch phone off airplane mode, Fi takes a moment to connect with local towers.

Fi works better overseas than in the US, IMHO. T Mobile and Sprint just don't provide very good US coverage outside of cities.

You could look at Fi pages. Or.

1. Look at Google's pages to make sure country is covered and any rates.
2. Make sure your account is set up in the Google Fi app/site to allow international roam and data.
3. Set phone to allow international roaming including data.
4. Profit

You might have to reboot your phone, but usually it figures it out and says Welcome to [the country you have entered]. I use mine in Canada routinely. I've also used it in Germany, Spain, Romania, and I bounced off a Swiss tower briefly.

when we were in an Air BnB in portugal one of the locals told use they just buy a chip at the mall for like 10 euro ( koodoo ? I forget ) and when its done they buy another one so we did that with GF's phone but my phone was still locked

Ya, US coverage is definitely lacking. It works where I need it to mostly. I put up with having to go on WiFi if I want to use it in the back of a big box store, grocery store, etc. Although 5G has made that a lot better. I don't use a lot of actual data, so their cheapest plan is economical for me, thing #1, and thing #2. It spikes when we travel but it's still cheaper than AT&T or Verizon. And Verizon has shitty coverage in a few specific places I regularly hang out. T-Mo is better there. The Canada roaming is the tits, especially since I go near the border a lot and hit their towers or end up where they have the only coverage. Thing #3 and my wife use so much data that I have them on a discounted AT&T plan.

One thing I would recommend is that you call them ahead of time and make sure that International plan is active, we had an issue in New Zealand where I had to call on a Wifi network and have them activate the International plan. Once you land, turn your phone off and then on and it should send a text that says Welcome to Wherever"

Sounds like there is a new plan called Unlimited Ultimate that includes coverage but it does need to be activated by them, it's $60-40/month depending on number of lines. Trying to get a clear answer has been pretty painful.

Wife is in Spain and her iPhone can text, receive calls but she is not able to call out. She is using + 1 before calling them it just disconnects. Any ideas from anyone that has used Verizon in Europe recently?

I called Verizon international support and they told me everything was set correctly already but somehow 3 minutes later she was able to call out. I think something wasn't set correctly at Verizon.
