What are you too old to deal with anymore?

This question has been trending online lately and I think it's both interesting and humorous.

The last 10 years of my life has seen a lot of things fall by the wayside. Things I've decided I'm just not willing to deal with anymore be it due to age/physical limitations or loss of interest/hassle factor. Some are small like mowing the lawn (I now hire a service) and pedal-to-the-metal skiing. Others are bigger like flying (there is nowhere I want to go that is worth the hassle of TSA, rude people and cancelled flights. I've traveled plenty to far flung places, now I like to focus on all the great sights within driving distance).

So what is it for you?

Big Air and to a lesser extent, sketchy no-fall lines in shitty conditions.

On the flying / travel note I was starting to feel that way for a bit, but a combo of Global Entry and CLEAR goes a long way on cutting down on the collective BS experience. Both are worth every penny. Yeah, there's still TSA nonsense occasionally but when you're going straight to the front of the line it's much more palatable. Having said that, when people crowd around the luggage carousel I still want to start punching them in the throat. ;-). I've made sure to educate my kids to not be traveling morons.

Bless you KQ. You do start the best threads. SO many things for me.

Most people. So much stoopid and lack of paying attention out there.

Being a homeowner. Fuck all this maintenance, expense.

Skiing (at least the way I've always done it) pretty much. Breaks my heart to say that. Too much bullshit for a diminished reward.

Striving, acquiring stuff, achieving stuff. Fuck it.

Agree with you on flying. Let's just get out on the water.

Probably lots more if I gave it a minute.

After years of fixing/ nursing along junk to save money I just get rid of it and buy new stuff or at least something almost new that works properly, I quit making wine so I gave away all the gear and now I just buy wine by the case, I don't work on vehicals anymore altho i still swap snow tires but I bought a real floor jack

so the root of it is I quit having to be frugal but the habit dies hard and people just keep sending me money, not a bad thing

Homeowner maintenance for sure; still doing it though.

It's proportional to my level of gainful employment. Last time I was out of work more than a month I crawled around on my hands and knees for three hours and re covered my own fucking crawl space. Anything that's going to result in my taking two extra trips to Lowes or Auto Parts store and three times as long as a pro and I'm out.

Changing the car oil/filter saves me an hour or two per year.. (4 cars). I can pull up on the ramps, flip the drain valve thing.. Go do another chore, swap the filter, flip the valve closed, and put new oil in.. 5-10 minutes total cost. Driving to Jiffi Lube, waiting, or drop off and return, only to have them strip my drain plug (happened twice). Fuck that shit..

Shit I've only done once or twice or that requires major physical effort and I'm out as long as I can afford to pay someone else to do it.

I hear you on the homeowner shit. I figure I've got another 15 years (if I live that long) on my farm before I sell up and move to town (not sure what that will look like but def. one level close to downtown, possibly a retirement community).

I'm also on my last horse who will be gone before I decide to sell the farm (he's 20 now). Breaks my heart but 1. I can't take the loss anymore (having to put them down) and 2. bucking hay, carrying feed bags, walking on ice to care for them in the winter etc. isn't something I want to do in my 70s.

This--although I never did big air and what I consider sketchy is I'm sure not for you. But I won't ski something unless I know I'll stop if I fall.

    But mainly, traffic.

The list gets longer by the year.

    - Yard work. Luckily, one of the teens mows the lawn. I really wish we all let it go back to nature and just mowed walking paths through yards. If you have kids who play in the yard mow, if not, it is just socially mandated busy work.

    - Home maintenance and upgrades. The pandemic did me in for upgrades. I did so much, I think it burned me out. There is always something to do.

    - Slow play sales experiences. I just want to know how much to walk out the door with the product/service. Don't piecemeal it with add ons - just give me the all in price and be done. I will thank you and you will likely get the sale. If you slow play me I will likely just excuse myself an leave.

    - Workplace Bureaucracy. I was never great at biting my tongue, but it has become more challenging to roll with illogical, wasteful bureaucracy that interferes with the mission.

All in all life is good, I just.dont want to spend time on things that don't bring me some level of joy or satisfaction.

Weeding. I think I'll be paying someone to do all the yard work soon. It's fine in the spring, but in the summer when it's hot I just hate it.

    Flat/hard landings.

    Conflict.
All I want is harmony now.
My wife's situation has made me realize life is too precious to always stand my ground. Now I yield to all kinds of absurdity and stay focused on what real matters. Happiness and health.

I’m starting to look at yard work and house maintenance as a major pain
    Housecleaning
    Bullshit in general
    Extravagant cooking
    Crowds
Like HBM said above, cheap remote parking
Like XXX_er said, fixing stuff. Just buy new.
Pain and death, but there seems to be more as I go along
    Giving a fuck

More probably when I think on this

    Working.

I mean, I'm still working, but my tolerance for it is flagging seriously.

Most people. Actually, almost all people.
    Stoopidz.
I was never a terribly patient person but the stoopidz have taken away what was left. Well, that and having kids. They aged me.

They're people like me who can no longer tolerate 9 months of grey, cold, drizzle after decades of doing so. Seriously want to live in a sunny, dry climate, preferably within spitting distance of some salt water.

Yeah, I guess that's another on the list.

Working at a job and, as much as I can, worry.

Funny thing is that the discipline to obviate worry is another kind of work, but the result is more deeply satisfying than hammering away at so much out of control stuff.

I used to try to matter more, but I get it. To reciprocate that is a deft balance, absent of anger or remorse.

My hassle threshold is a lot lower. If it’s too much work, I’m popping a handful of fuckitall. I’m just keeping closer to heart, closer to home .
