    Repairing a cargo box

Just got a damaged cargo box from a member here (thanks again Ben!) and looking for products to patch it. The box has a couple small holes from where pieces are missing- 3”x3” each maybe.

I have found Mammoth Mend and Easy ABS repair kits that are both about $80. Wanted to see if anyone has worked with either of these or has a better suggestion. I was going to use a Bondo fiberglass repair kit but apparently Bondo doesn’t stick well to ABS plastic. Bummer because the Bondo kits are like $30.

I used fiberglass on a box I got for free from Dexter. Solid for 2 seasons including a cross country trip to hang with the Jackson folk.

But yeah, there's more than a couple of threads on this....

    Repairing a cargo box

Many years ago I fixed a ski box with the fiberglass repair kit sold at my local Ace Hardware store. It wasn’t anything fancy and it held very well for several years.

I still have a box I bought in '93-'94 or so when I was still in the outdoor business. The thing is bomber. I was just cleaning it after another trip and only a couple of dimples in the face from rocks, but solid. Replaced hardware once and UV protectant for maintenance over the years.

My post has nothing to do with repair, but just another case of old shit made better than newer. I'm sure the new are way lighter as mine is pretty freakin heavy.
