Yep. If a coach leaves, there’s no reason players he recruited shouldn’t be able to bale too

If my kid gets offered a 4 year academic scholarship to Big State U and after a year or two they decide to go to Harvard or any other school they can. They're not slaves owned by the university because of being offered a scholarship to play football or do research or whatever. There are no non-compete clauses and it wouldn't pass legal muster if they tried to require one.

It's kind of like a bunch of mediocre college players beating the Soviet National Team in 1980 amirite? Most of those kids didn't even make it for more than a minute in the NHL.. and the NHL All Stars got totally owned by the Soviet National Team in exhibitions games.. Nobody could be that stupid amirite?

Yeah, of course no one should not be able to switch schools. I'm pointing out, that the transfer portal is different. I'm not sure people understand the rules changed for NCAA, and there's no more giving up eligibility. That's systematically different when all aspects of football are considered. It's definitely new, and like the other poster before me said, the transfer portal trend could end pretty quickly based on the stats of how everyone ends up after the next few years.
EDIT: What we're seeing is (un-jokingly) the 'Prime Effect'. Deion essentially beta tested this with the new rules. He got a ton of praise and exposure for the football program he coaches. Now, we're seeing the reaction from players nationwide.
The transfer portal started in 2018. Before that, an athlete who wanted to transfer had to ask permission from his coach, or go through an appeals process if denied. But he still had to sit out a year if he transferred.
Immediate eligibility started in April 2021, so it’s been a couple years. Coach Prime wasn’t the first, but he certainly used it on a much larger scale. I’d argue that he wasn’t all that successful with the brutal approach he took. He’s already seen some key defections, and decommits from the 2024 high school recruiting class. He desperately needs high quality offensive linemen to protect his QB. It will be interesting to see if he gets them, given this years results.
Deion paled in comparison to other programs' success in the portal. He got a bunch of PR for firing half his team, but he didn't do so well replacing them, save a handful of standouts.
The dude is definitely punching above his weight--I'll give you that. But how long will the #coachprime hype train last without a successful season to show for it? These dudes want a spotlight and they want to win in that spotlight.

There are two different major dynamics happening in the transfer portal activity... The first is players being straight up told by the head coach during end of season interviews that they're not likely to get much playing time next season.. hint hint, check out your other options., that also includes players following their coaches who are also leaving/fired took another job elsewhere.
Then there are players who are lured away by better NIL deals or just think that they will be happier elsewhere but haven't been told by the coach they will be down the depth chart at all..

There’s also guys that shined at their previous school, but saw the opportunity to go play with a stronger program that had the chance for a National Championship, or at least a bigger spotlight, whether that involves NIL or not.
You know, it’s very possible, or at least slightly possible that FSU beats Georgia in the Orange Bowl. Recall the 2019 Sugar Bowl where #15 Texas beat #5 Georgia.
Georgia was favored by11 points, but lost. Coach Tom Herman prepared the longhorns that year like they were playing for the national championship, while the Georgia team largely didn’t give a crap and were there to party.
It could happen again. FSU is highly motivated, and I can’t see the Georgia players caring much at this point.
There is talk of FSU boycotting the bowl and suing over this..

CU just landed a 5* OT commitment. More to come I imagine. https://n.rivals.com/news/colorado-l...-jordan-seaton
FINALLY, some recognition in the polls.
Nice job pulling up number two, Pokes! And yes, that is Liberty at #5- look out, Ducks!

Better luck next year, I guess.

I believe Deion has said numerous times that he doesnt want to coach men at the NFL level and much prefers coaching college and HS because he can mentor and teach his players life skills/lessons... where in the NFL you are dealing with grown ass men with families who dont need/want to have that relationship with their coach.
i can see Deion going to A&M for big bucks in the next couple years though.
You are assuming A&M is going to hire someone for $100M and fire them after 2 years?

I'd put money on Sanders leaving college coaching within 2 years of his youngest kid finishing college eligibility. He's a rolling stone. He's pretty much changed jobs/teams every 5 years his entire adult life.
