Speaking of free meals, did y’all see this from a couple weeks ago? Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in NC would-be winners lost out on over $3MM 1st place prize because their over 600lb marlin was bitten by shark.

Second place was almost 200lbs smaller and took the prize.

You can't win if your fish gets bitten by a shark even though it still weighs more than second place? That's bullshit.

And it sure took a crowd to catch that fish, geez.

Right!?! The team filed a grievance; no shit they did.

MJ’s boat fishes that tournament every year, the fuel they must burn is insane.

Yeah, that sucks. What’s the reasoning? Is there an anti-chumming rule or something? Like they consider the presence of sharks to be evidence of cheating?

I saw on Wicked Tuna one time they had a fish get the back quarter taken by a shark. They had to throw the rest back, couldn't keep it because apparently without a tail they can't officially measure it and therefore can't prove it's legal size. Wonder if there was some quirky regulation like that in play here too...

Maybe they claim it’s not a “fair catch” because the fish was wounded?

I can see either of these being a valid reason, but I’m guessing it’s closer to Jimmy’s rationale for this instance.

I’d be $3MM kinds of pissed off though for sure.

Thems the jackpot rules, always has been.

A fish that got chomped is likely easier to land.

Between this and the cheating walleye tournament team I’m learning a lot about fishing this summer.

If a too large fish gets bit in half

Does that make it a keeper?

I find Greenland sharks to be fascinating. They are big, live a crazy long time and we are still guessing at a lot of the details about them

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenland_shark

And they look creepy as hell

I think so. Although, that half of fish might still be too large. I’d hope the DEC wouldn’t hassle you for keeping it.

I look at it like getting denied a layup, or having the perfect FWT line and at the end knocked down by sluff, or almost sinking that golf put but only to have a squirrel grab your ball before the hole.

Hitting a home run ball and the ball hitting a bird and not clearing the wall.

    I could go on.

The task was reeling in a fish. If they reel in half a fish the task was not complete. Nature is the X factor.

Or reeling in a dead fish, or foul hooking one. Both don't count in contests or jackpots.
