I, for one, welcome our Snapping Turtle Overlords.
Gee, sounds great, where do I sign up?
“It has more things that will kill you than anywhere else. Of the world's ten most poisonous snakes, all are Australian. Five of its creatures - the funnel web spider, box jellyfish, blue-ringed octopus, paralysis tick, and stonefish - are the most lethal of their type in the world. This is a country where even the fluffiest of caterpillars can lay you out with a toxic nip, where seashells will not just sting you but actually sometimes go for you. ... If you are not stung or pronged to death in some unexpected manner, you may be fatally chomped by sharks or crocodiles, or carried helplessly out to sea by irresistible currents, or left to stagger to an unhappy death in the baking outback. It's a tough place.”
Goddamn South Pacific Floridians
“They spend half of any conversation insisting that the country's dangers are vastly overrated and that there's nothing to worry about, and the other half telling you how six months ago their Uncle Bob was driving to Mudgee when a tiger snake slid out from under the dashboard and bit him on the groin, but that it's okay now because he's off the life support machine and they've discovered he can communicate with eye blinks.”
Lol.
Add to that the entire family tree is descended from criminals and you've got yourself a real Wallaby Darned!

Candygram.

Watched that last night.
Pretty good and well made. Basically the seals moved in and the sharks followed. Things are different than they used to be and the old timers are mad they can’t get rid of the seals because of the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
But holy hell, I would not be swimming there.
That's crazy; I can't imagine what it would be like to have a beach/vacation region that I'm very familiar with turned on its head because of a massive shift in the ecology of the area that included a marked increase in Great White/human interaction. That has to be interesting/fascinating/scary all the same time, Jimmy.
Hate the old timer's attitude regarding the marine mammal protection act; people who are shortsighted in general to animal protection laws (looking at you MT governor) annoy me.
I'll have to watch that.

The app seems pretty cool, they tagged like 200 Great Whites there and you get updates on your phone. Problem is they estimate there are over 400 Great Whites there.
Not that we haven’t destroyed the seas with overfishing
But I’m rooting for the sharks.

It is widely known that seals eat between 6%-8% of their body weight in fish per day. Which doesn’t seem like all that much. Now let’s scale it a bit. How much fish will 10,000 seals eat in a day? Well, if those 10,000 seals weigh 500 pounds each, they would consume 350,000 lbs. of fish per day or 2.45 million pounds of fish per week.
I'm gonna wait to form an opinion on the seals until AK Rover or David Witherspoon weighs in with their 2c.

All we need to do is give the seals guns.. Then they eat the sharks, problem solved! DUH!
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!
Don’t the South Africans put out anti- shark nets around the swimming areas on their beaches? Has anybody tried that here or we just not there yet?
dude, we got 'bout three thousand aspirin deaths per year in the usa an no one gives a shit... but a couple a sharks get lucky at dinner time and it's all "lets build a damn shark wall" time 'round here?... sheesh.
Heh
I volunteered to be a Safety/escort kayak for a charity Newburgh to Beacon swim this Saturday. I just watched the safety meeting over zoom and one of the organizers made a joke about sharks- like a shark showing up was just beyond any possibility. So I’m pretty sure we’re gonna see one now. I’ll try to get a pic.
never been a shark in the hudson... you shouldn't be needin' a bigger boat.
nautical fact.
Better chance of bumping into a dead body in that neck of the Hudson imo
