    Zipper for Airbag Compartment

Anyone know the technical name for an avalanche airbag compartment zipper and where to source one?

The zipper where there's a couple inches in the middle where the teeth don't mesh together so it can be pushed apart by airbag when it inflates.

Wildsnow calls it a birthing zipper but there's virtually no other results for that term when I search.

Thanks. Now to track down a lead on someone who will sell some in a reasonably quantity.

Designing your own airbag? Going with something other than air/nitrogen? Old Dyson vacuum in reverse? 80v leaf blower?

Helium based to make the uphill easier

Really just trying to repair my BCA bag that has a few broken teeth and is out of warranty. Would be an easy fix if I could just find a zipper.

    Solution: YKK Quickfree

Hey, I was struggling with the same, google led me here so for future generations - you can use two "YKK Quickfree" zippers facing each other to fix your backpack. Those are easier to be sourced than the original "YKK Quickburst" which seems not to be sold in retail.

That's awesome. Where did you find to source these from? The only place I'm seeing online is in Finland: https://www.shelbyoutdoor.com/produc...2%7D21%7B1%7D1.

Seems like BCA would want to help get this repaired correctly despite the nominal warranty.

‘Skier dies in avalanche, defective airbag suspected; family says mfger refused to inspect & repair/test airbag, considering lawsuit’

Not guaranteed to be a useful suggestion, but I would contact a outdoor fabric/gear supplier for DIYers that is already a YKK zipper dealer, and see if they could order a Quickfree or Quickburst zipper for you from YKK. I don't have any experience with these suppliers, but some place like Seattle Fabrics, Quest Outfitters, Ripstop by the Roll, etc - there is a list here: https://www.stitchbackgear.com/resources
