First, this is a fantastic comment. Second, this brings up the fact that if they just applied the principles of safe travel in avie terrain they would have been fine. Stay roped up, have a working beacon, don't rely on SAR cause they probably won't get there fast enough, don't go into risky terrain without a plan and a backup plan, make sure part of the team is unexposed to the danger and can rapidly get to you if something goes wrong.
Once again, a consultation with the TGR boards could have saved a lot of hassle. We're an underappreciated and underused resource.
