    ^^^ continuing with this drift…
A very long time ago Ms TBS was an MA for an internist. A guy came in for a malady requiring him to remove his pants (can’t remember what precisely).
He had panty hose on and underneath those were sheets of aluminum foil covering his genitalia.
Reason had something to do with aliens.

A common myth. It is illegal to use donated money in this manner as a tax-deductible charity contribution.

At least in Canada it is, but laws in North America are often similar, so until you prove otherwise I'm gonna say this is the same in the good old US of A.

News flash since you are Canadian, just about zero chance of that being prosecuted for that in the USA. It is illegal, but financial crimes committed by the upper middle class and the wealthy are rarely prosecuted. Which is fucked up.

Yeah, you can go screw yourself there, buddy.
Had the same revelation in a self-serve line at a Wild hockey game - about 5 seconds too late. Never mind the fact I had bought ONE beer and ONE White Claw for $28...

I still want know why I should tip the well paid housekeeper. Again, I’ll tip the expected 20%. But not to every Tom Dick and Harry “just cause” somebody here says tip everyone.

You should pay your employees instead of playing this stupid game. And I’ll bitch about it on the internet anytime I’d like.

    And fuck your iPad.

Rage about stupid shit you have total control over. Own your bullshit. If you don't want to tip, here is my pro tip: don't

Hold your head high and be willing in an calm and rational manner to explain your position. Or don't. And have another four edibles and take some blood pressure medication or eat some shitty food and try and self-rationalize that your challenges are a product of your environment.

Smile more. Be a bit stoic about it. Move on. Live your life.

I’ve heard these new cashless tips don’t always go to the employees.

I’ll be a better tipper once all service jobs have been replaced by robots.

Well, the establishment is committing wage theft if the tips aren’t going to employees.

Where did you hear about this? Did you do your own research?

The service charge can be nefarious because they count as regular wages, not tips. I am leery of them unless it is explicitly stated where the money is going and how it is used.

The best use I have seen is a mandatory service charge that was used to cover the employees health insurance. I didn't ask what happened to the money if they brought in more than the monthly premiums.

I have no idea if there are businesses who keep the tips on electronic payments rather than give them to the workers but I would think if someone did this and got caught it would be fraud and some lawyer would get rich.

Hahahah, wage theft as something employers get in trouble for!

    "
According to one estimate from the nonprofit think tank Economic Policy Institute, reported and unreported wage theft could amount to as much as $50 billion per year owed to workers.

That number dwarfs criminal offenses such as robbery, which accounted for just under $500 million in losses in 2019, according to FBI data. Burglary accounted for about $3 billion in losses that same year, and motor vehicle theft made up about $6 billion. "

    Tipflation?!?!

Found out that in addition to local employers not paying entry level employees for orientation, my kid doesn’t get paid to count down his drawer either. He works the counter until 9 and then counts down off the clock.

I called state and federal DOL and while those guys were sympathetic and easy to talk to, they aren’t gonna do anything about it either. My kid is working with his friends and not hating it and making an issue of it isn’t really worth it on an individual level, so whatever I guess. Confronting his manager or the business owner is probably not going to be an ultimately positive experience for anybody.

These guys get away with so much….

When I shoveled coal in a steel mill I got 45 minutes of company time to shower. That was the only good thing about that job. And 45 minutes wasn't enough.

That's bullshit man. If his time is benefiting the company, he should be paid.

When my sister was 15 she worked late nights at a Perkins restaurant. When it got slow, the manager made her clock out and hang around until customers showed up. When my mom got wind of this she was furious. Went straight up the chain at Perkins, got the manager fired and company policies clearly spelled out. Trust me you did NOT want to mess with my mom, RIP.

But as a parent you need to teach your kids to stand up for themselves. I know how difficult that can be, they don't want to make waves and they honestly don't really care that much.

This line of reasoning is why they get away with it and are emboldened to even try it in the first place.

Is this a stated policy, written or unwritten, at this place? Is it a single outlet small business or a chain? Is this a short term job for the kid?
