Gave my newspaper carrier a $100 goodbye tip because he lost his job. Paper is no longer printed every day, and on the three days it is printed, it is delivered by mail. Dude never missed a morning in many years of service.

Sucks. I miss having a paper paper to read with my coffee.

And while I have the subject up for the collective. I have been 2x a week in PT since March, the 2 PTs have been freaking awesome. I would like to show my appreciation some way besides just getting my shoulder back to 95%.

I was thinking of something all the PTs and the office staff could enjoy, fruit basket???
Don’t be such a cheapskate, hand out Gold Passes to everyone.

Ours went to 3 days a week. I hate it.

Is yours owned by Lee Enterprises? They own most of the papers in Montana and all except the Billings paper now only print 3 days a week. Online version is available the other 4 days.

Pool pump died last week. Called the company who installed it, said it's still under warranty and they'll put in a support ticket (yay for me). Was thinking it would be days before the guy showed up, but the very next morning at 9:10am my phone rings and dude is in my backyard. Back up and running by 9:30 - amazing experience. Tipped the guy $40 so he will remember me and come early next time as well.

New pump is much quieter, by the way.

I depend on the Sierra Sun to clean the soot off my wood stove window.

I tip delivery people who do anything above and beyond--like carrying a big TV up two long flights of stairs or taking a tablesaw back to the garage when the contract said curbside delivery.

If you watch much porn you know that delivery people get tipped all the time.

And one last word on the subject

Never tipped. Didn't even cross my mind. Am I supposed to?
Delivery only or delivery plus install? I gave the guys who wrestled my washer into a very tight spot, leveled it the best anyone could, and hooked it up $10 each. That was probably on the lame side. The sleep number installers who barely spoke English and seemed a little intimidated to be this far from Boston and out in the sticks got $40 each and a few glasses of water each. I'm only two miles from I-89 and almost within sight, but still it's VT. We have banjos. It was brutally hot and they actually asked for the water, they didn't have any.

I also delivered furniture and appliances and it's hard AF. We didn't always get tips, so we didn't expect tips, but they were sure appreciated.

I had a fridge delivered, I was going to do the install. They took it up half a flight of stairs and set it in the kitchen. I gave them both a $20 on the way out. They promptly turned around, went back upstairs, grabbed the old fridge and plopped it on the curb for me. I didn't even have to ask. You get what you pay for.

If the delivery people come from the store you bought it from I’d say no, you don’t have to tip. But if it is a really hard delivery, through tight spaces, up stairs I’d say yes. If you hire the delivery (ie movers) then yes. I only got stiffed on one moving job when I was in college but man was I pissed. It’s not like waiting tables where you have other opportunities to make money that day, that’s typically your one shot.

Seems like the right place for this sad story.

Idon’t buy appliances very often but I always tip the delivery guys except this last time.

Got a replacement on warranty on an almost brand new (2 month old) GE side by side refrigerator after a massive and infuriating 50 day clusterfuck of a warranty claim. So on delivery day the delivery contractor keeps me waiting until 3 pm but what the hell that’s how it works. They pull up and I’m expecting a couple of pros. Instead the driver gets out, reasonably beefy young kid, greets me and after a minute his partner gets out and he’s about 5’ 4” and couldn’t weigh 130 lbs if he filled his pockets with rocks. Now I’m thinking looks aren’t everything (fuck I’d still be single if they were) but in addition to being a featherweight he clearly doesn’t have a clue as to how to do the job.

So the young driver is coaching him through how to put the lifting rig on and how to position himself etc. The door nearest the kitchen is 100 ft from where the truck is parked and there are three wide steps up to the deck and one more through the door and then twenty feet to the spot where the unit goes. In other words not a tough job.

They get the malfunctioning fridge goes out ok but the skinny kid is starting to fade and starts making excuses about just being back after sick leave for an injury (so now I have to hear his whole life’s story but I’m desperate to get a working refrigerator into my fucking kitchen so what the hell.)

Old one out new one lowered to the ground and skinny kid can barely get it airborne. They get to the step with the rig on and it’s no go. Kid can’t straighten up with rig on, simply doesn’t have the leg strength. He starts having a melt down, I mean a crying melt down. He goes back to the truck to collect himself. I’m totally fucking flabbergasted. I’d have been raging pissed off it it wasn’t so sad. So I complement the the burly kid on his patience but suggest he get a new partner as soon as he can, because this jokers going to be a serious drag on his career in appliance logistics. And I also tell him my senior citizen ass is going to help him get it in because there is no way they’re getting off my property without getting that thing in my house and properly fired up.

So I help them hump it in the door with minimal damage to the paint and floors and it thank God works correctly and after two fucking hours I bid them good bye. And despite the fact that they loitered expectantly for about 30 seconds - no they did not get a mother fucking tip!
Damn, we're in a tight spot!

^^ fridges arent THAT heavy. a couple hundred pounds at most, and those lifting straps make it really easy to move big heavy shit around easily.

I dont tip trades people or appliance delivery folks. But i do offer them canned energy drinks (that i get for free from a rep, despite not liking them). Everyone appreciates a pickmeup, and with alcoholism/drug addiction being common i find that caffeine is a safe offer.

You kidding?! Fridges can get freaking HEAVY! Especially the higher end models. Had to help someone shuffle around a Sub-Zero and it was NOT easy. Looked it up and ends up it weighed like 880 lbs. Yeah, those movers sometimes deserve a tip for dang near blowing out their backs with a hernia-inducing beast like that. Especially when it's 118 degrees out. And there are stairs to contend with.

Really? Ive moved 4 fridges (normal residential counterdepth fridges including side by sides) and there is no way they were north of 250lbs. Was the subzero a commercial fridge full up with food?! 880lbs is a fuckton of weight!... like OSHA says it needs a machine-heavy

    That’s a first.

I’d just tip 17% on the pretax amount (if service was decent).

Sneaky bastards, and they are taxing the 3%.

Here's what's really gonna piss you off. It's not the restaurant. See that little line at the bottom.... it's their POS processor, Toast. That $1 never makes it to the employees.
