    Vehicle Color for Mountain Driving

What color of rig holds up best to all the shit mountain roads and ski parking lots throw at it?

Just washed and waxed my almost black rig and it’s getting beat after 7 seasons.

Silver is my preference to add a bit of style. Doesn’t show dust or mild clear coat degradation. White is a bit better for longevity, but shows dirt more, and looks like a govt or contractor fleet vehicle.

The Toyota quicksand and those like it seem to match the mud from the road to Silverton perfectly.

Question for OP: if you max out the GOTOS, does the color even matter anymore?

Are you asking if certain colors actually hold up better than others? Not sure about that, but red is the fastest.
    No longer stuck.

Yup, silver shows the least wear.

    Thirded!

White also doesn’t heat up as much in direct sunlight, major plus IMO

My mom used to have a bronze-brown GMC. It was the color of road grime.

I like white cars for living in the mountains. Dark colors are brutal in the summer. Although one plus to my black truck is I almost never need to clear snow off after a ski day.

The official color of my Outback is “tungsten”. Its about the same color as the dust and dirt around here. It doesn’t get hot. Scratches from brush don’t show up either

It also has a cream colored interior which doesn’t absorb heat, although I do have to scrub the seats once a year or so.

Apparently white is the thinnest coating of paint so they are more prone to chipping from gravel and rust associated with that.

It's not only which color holds up best but also which will look good when beat up - a vote for silver but also dark gray which in my opinion tends to look better as the SUV gets larger.

But studies have confirmed that the red ones are fastest.

White cars seem like a less than great idea in a snowstorm. I’m sure any actual difference in safety or visibility is marginal, but marginal differences are what this thread is about anyways, right? Anyways… I steer toward dark or bright colors and have always avoided white, partially for that reason.
    focus.

I live on a dirt road in Vermont. Always buy sliver and gray cars. Dark colors are never good. I don't like white when it's snowing. Blends in way too much. Red is fast, but it's not my style.
