    Boot sale season

I have some rx120 mv that should've been lv, and some scarpa maestrale 110 that I have grown to hate in my first twenty days of touring because they're too soft and give me ankle blisters.

I tried on various tecnicas and they fit real nice. But I really don't want to own three boots (Cochise, mach1, zgtp) because that seems ridiculous.

I'm gonna get the zgtp for sure. But mach1 or Cochise or both?

I'm 6'1 185, ski in the Wasatch 50+ days, 75% resort rest bc

Cochise going for 560 now, mach1 still expensive as hell

    What wood u do

    Cochise is your boot.

    The Mach1 feels/fits real tight.

If you’re committed to the zgtf, get the mach 1 lv as your resort boot.

Have you skied the Cochise and mach 1? How would you characterize the difference on the down?

I like the idea of having the Cochise as resort plus my shorter tours with more gnar skiing but I don't want to give up much if anything in the resort ...

I was a Cochise one boot quiver guy, after one year of lugging the big boots around on missions I purchased a pair of ZGTP. I recently moved on from the Cochise to a true resort boot. I had forgotten how amazing a true resort boot skis. Unless you are doing a lot of hiking and side-country I cannot see the reason to have both the ZGTP and Cochise in a two boot quiver. The ZGTP with a more substantial liner skis like 80% as well as a Cochise anyways.

If you're going to have two boots, go ZGTP and Mach1 (or some other resort equivalent). One boot, the Cochise is an excellent choice

I used to be a 2-boot quiver of Mach1 LV and Cochise. If your foot fits in the LV Mach1, the Cochise will probably feel much less precise. If your feet are getting crushed in the LV and the MV feels good for the Mach1, the Cochise will probably feel much closer for performance/precision. Stiffness-wise they are in the same ballpark, although the cuff of the Cochise is a few cms higher than the Mach1 and its suspension feels much different.

Another note is that I have about half a finger shell fit on my 25.5 Mach1s, but 25.5 ZGTPs had at least a 2 finger fit. I ended up downsizing to a 24.5 and punching out a few toes and adding a ramp to give my foot a little extra length. This might not be the case for you, but keep in mind that the same size in both boots might not fit the same

Similar height/weight as you. I went from the Cochise 130 as my DD to the mach1 last season. Now that I've got it dialed in, if the closest boot I've had to giving me the performance I had in boots like the Salomon Ghost. The slow changes to boots over the years has pushed me into walk-mode boots. Feels great to be back into a legit boot.

I would make a strong case for the zero g pro for a quiver of two with the mach 1. I got that one as well and I'm honestly amazed at how well it skis. Really begs the question on whether I want to keep my Cochise 130s. Binding compatibility with CAST is the main thing for me to keep the Cochise.

All that being said, if you're a 26.5 and maybe want some cheaper Cochises, lemme know! If you're more in line with the MV volume, you might look at the mach 1 Concept, and maybe the Fisher Ranger 130 (2023 model). Fischer changed the plastics to a much stiffer profile recently.

So I bought the Cochise 130 last may for $450 and skied it a few days inbounds. It was good, some pain in the instep in my larger foot.

Then over summer bought zero g pro tour and mach1 130 mv in the same size for about $500 each, haven't skied em yet. I have no self control

I'm telling myself a 3 boot quiver is actually practical on some level but not sure I believe it

I also ended up with a Mach 1, Cochise 130, ZGTP quiver last year due to similarly finding all 3 for very, very cheap. I think it’s a great setup if you can make all 3 fit (I couldn’t).

For me, I loved the beef of the Cochise 130 and the fact that it could still tour (even if relatively poorly). This is especially nice for travel that will likely be mostly resort skiing. Especially with availability of CAST, Duke PT, etc. Perfect for sidecountry days.

It’s nowhere near the tourability of something like the ZGTP so would never consider it as my only touring boot.

It’s also not “quite” the flex profile of the Mach 1, but it’s closer than I expected. Almost as stiff, just a little less progressive. If the Cochise fit me better than the Mach 1 LV (rather than the other way around), I might have considered it as my only resort boot.

While I COULD ski the ZGTP at the resort, I just have more fun with a beefier boot.

Unfortunately, the zgtp and Cochise 130 were both too high volume and the bootfitters I consulted said the next shell down was a no go. So I’m back to a two boot quiver with the Mach 1 and scarpa Quattro XT…maybe they’ll make a Cochise 130LV some day!

I'm a Lange guy. RX for daily. XT3 for touring. I daily'd the XT for a season. They're a good boot, but don't have that plush RX flex.

Buying boots without fitting them first is like Russian roulette. Have you spent time with your feet in all of them?

I'm on a multi year obsessive boot journey. I've tried on dozens of boots in-store or by ordering them and returning them since it's hard to find certain models in brick and mortar stores.

I can discount most boots by simply trying them on. Once they pass that test I start skiing them, and I have yet to find one that doesn't cause me some kind of issue on the hill. Maybe I'll just start duct taping my socked feet to my twigs

Have you had work done on any of the boots, or just skiing them out of the box?

I haven't, I'm a dumbass but I might with one of these new pair. I have pressure on the instep of my larger foot in the cochise so seems like a good place to start with a punch or something.

You should definitely check in to getting some work done. It’s going to be hard for most people to get a high performance fit without needing a bit of tweaking.

Most good fitters will include some amount of boot work in the sell price, but even if you didn’t purchase from them they’ll likely still work on them. (Ex. Start Haus in Truckee charges $20-40 per punch on boots that weren’t purchased there, or if they were but it’s been over a year).

Since it's the boot sale thread...

I just bought some 22/23 Rx 130's for $200 on ebay.

    New in box.

Some bike/ski shop in Westport, Connecticut.

    That's a sale.

My biggest issue with something like that is footbeds. Do you have footbeds in all of them or swap the footbed to the pair you're skiing that day. Hate that shit.

Two pairs of footbeds, i have zipfits i use in two of the boots so i leave one pair in there and swap the other pair of footbeds between the last two boots as necessary
