Kid / adult (frame up builds)

About to finish a kid’s bike. Guess the only remaining parts on my bike that is original is the headset and rear axle, does that count?

Think I got okay value out of the build. Finding and watching parts/prices jump around was a bit much.
Anyways, doubt 57” kid will be more than 5’3”. Could be a forever backup 29er hardtail down the road?
probably add dropper and new rubber to say goodbye to the 23.5lb build.

    13": Seat Tube 33cm | VTT 52cm | Reach 36.3cm | Stack 58cm | STA 75 deg | HT 10cm | HTA 65 deg | Stays 445mm
    15.5": Seat Tube 39.5cm | VTT 58cm | Reach 42cm | Stack 59cm | STA 75 deg | HT 10cm | HTA 65 deg | Stays 445mm
    17.5": Seat Tube 44.5cm | VTT 61cm | Reach 45cm | Stack 60cm | STA 75 deg | HT 11cm | HTA 65 deg | Stays 445mm

Mini DTM's XS Notmad C. Mezzer Pro with a lightweight custom tuned damper (in-house by Manitou), Mara Pro, JUNIT Dominions with custom chrome calipers and factory monogrammed master cylinders, Reynolds Blacklabel 287 Hydra wheels, Protaper carbon bars, Oneup dropper, Oneup oval, GX Eagle.

Finished the build in January and finally got it on dirt yesterday. He was pretty pschyed. Had to slam the saddle allll the way forward and tilt it down a bit to keep it from buzzing the tire. I'm tempted to shim the shock stroke down a bit to cut the travel down to 160 mm.

Thanks, like 21.5, which, I wish it was a little lighter but that's with 2.4" tires and a dropper post and pedals and an XL frame. The trek frame is pretty heavy compared to some of the other hardtails out there but it was both available and I get a good ep on it so I guess I can live with an extra couple hundred grams. It has some nice frame protection details and that isospeed deal which all adds weight and will maybe be more durable over the long term vs some of the really light ones.

I do have some super flimsy tires and a rigid post for it that I may or may not ever use that should save a bit. Plan to race scratchgravel XC in helena in a couple of weeks. Should be a little more appropriate for that course than the hei hei.

Build of my Paradox. All components are super burly but I was actually surprised that it doesn't feel unreasonably heavy on the trail. Eventually the brakes and wheelset will go over to a bigger bike. Trying out Formula Cura brakes on the hardtail and probably WA1 Union wheels with slightly faster rolling tires.

I could have documented the process a bit better I guess, it was my first full build...

Edit: so many Mezzers in this thread, makes me happy! Looks like Manitou is back on the DH WC circuit sponsoring Cathro and team with the new Dorado, pumped to see them back at the sharp end of things!

I'll have to take some photos of my Nomad in a couple days when the last piece arrives (new pedals), since I just effectively finished it. Started frame up in February, have been doing some back to back testing on parts.

Santa Cruz Nomad 6 CC frame & bottle cage
Zeb Ultimate fork (from last bike)
Super Deluxe Ultimate Coil w/ EXT spring & SAR POM adapters
Chris King headset & bottom bracket (from last bike)
eeWings 170mm cranks (on 3rd bike now)
X01 AXS drivetrain (from last bike, new bike got fresh cassette, chain, & chainring though)
170mm AXS dropper (from last bike, bought used)
Hayes Dominion A4 brakes w/ 200mm HS2 rotors (from last bike)
Reserve AL HD 30 wheels w/ DT 350 hubs
    Conti Kryptotal DH tires
Ergon GE1 Factory Slim grips & SM Enduro Comp saddle
OneUp 35mm rise bars, EDC, bashguide (on 3rd bike now)
    I9 A35 stem, 40mm (from last bike)
K-Edge Wahoo mount & Wahoo computer
Deity TMac pedals (in the mail)

I slightly prefer the SD Coil over my retuned EXT - the SD is a little bit poppier and feels like it matches the Zeb better. I like the grip on my current Tenet Occult pedals but am having durability issues, so trying the TMacs which are same profile/size (and most importantly, silver to match the eeWings). I tried my WAO Union/Hydra wheels back to back with the Reserve AL/DT 350 wheels, and slightly prefer the compliance of the Reserves. I had brought over my old SM Enduro Pro saddle with Ti rails, but the "kevlar" rear edge got destroyed by winter gritty mud, so I "downgraded" to the synthetic Comp version for more durability.

Hayes also recently became the official brake sponsor for Atherton Racing and they signed Brendan Fairclough and Sam Blinkensop. A very reliable source may have told me they all approached Hayes on their own.

It's good to see Manitou finally back on the right path.
I used to love the brand back in the day. Shortly after the Hayes takeover, I had several problems with a Nixon fork and a rear shock (forget the model). Customer service was non-existant and Hayes even said they offered no support for anything over two years old. I swore them off forever.
I'm really happy to see them building good product and, more importantly, offering good support. You can actually get a tech on the phone now.

I have no experience with old Hayes/Manitou but had to deal with Manitou warranty recently for overly tight bushings in a fork. Took 10 minutes and a couple round of emails to get a new casting in the mail, 3 days later the fork was fixed. Buddy recently had real bad luck with Dominion brakes and he warrantied 2 sets back to back no questions asked, he was pissed about the brakes but impressed with customer service. Hopefully none of that changes.
What I appreciate the most about the brands right now is how easy they've made it to do your own service, Manitou has super detailed manuals for fork/shock service and full rebuild, videos, and parts available.

I took a recent photo before the pedal swap. I'd like to find some custom silver decals for the frame to match the rest of the accents, but other than that, I think this bike is complete. I wouldn't say no to a new Transmission drivetrain, but that's like a year or more out for this bike.

Built up a Stumpjumper for the wife who in late fall, then it never stopped snowing. They were blowing the frames out, found a great deal on a xo1 axs drivetrain, formula cura 4 brakes, eewings ti cranks ($450…would never pay new) carbon Chinese rims w dt hubs Sapim spokes. Pike ultimate fork, race face bar and stem. Spring is finally here and time to get out!

Been buying complete trail bikes lately, but did build up two dirt jumpers for myself and my oldest kid/loaner in the last year.

My Octane one zircus, DT Swiss 350s on DT rim, since pic swapped fork to Manitou Circus Expert, running front and rear hydro brakes bc I’m 40+ and no barspins happening. Some parts bin, including the old Thomson Masterpiece seat post which probably cost more than frame and fork.

My sons/loaner dirt jumper. Moved Manitou Circus sport fork to this bike. Frame is a mongoose fireball I picked up ultra cheap, rough sanded/polished and threw a clear-coat on. Actually kinda like the half finished look. Nick-named mad max. Lives in a bike storage tent next to my pump track w my daughters BMX. Cranks are old XTR 960s i polished to match my Ti SS and still probably worth more than anything else on this bike.

I got the frameset in July and only finished the build in October, there was a lot of time between pics waiting for various parts and time to build it. It was actually like watching it grow into a full bike!

One of the best frames I have ever rode. It was fun and playful in pretty much every application I put it to. It was rebuilt twice, once with upgrades from Campagnolo Mirage to Record, then downgraded to Single Speed Campy and TRP, which was a blast! Sold this one, but would buy again.

Cyclocross bike with Campy road group (3x10!!!) but I had a wheelset that could bring it on gravel as well, making it a pretty versatile gravel AND road/touring bike. Sold this one to a bike packer in Illinois a year ago.
