Which used touring set up would you pick? How old is too old for a used kit?

I'm looking into buying a used touring set up, and I've narrowed it down to a few local options. I'm looking to do some longer, low angle, good quality snow stuff at first. Later, I'd maybe move into steeper mountaineering missions on more questionable snow. It would be great if some people would be willing to pick their favorite from the lot.

One I really like is $825, the 178cm Armada Locator 104 with Dynafit Superlite 175's. However, I've heard the Superlites have breaking issues in the toes and the heel lift/flat modes leave something to be desired. Also, I think the Superlite is supposed to be more off a skimo binding and might be sketchy in bigger terrain? Would love to hear people's thoughts about this.

Another option is $600, the 180cm Armada Tracer 108 with Dynafit Rotation's. These bindings don't seem to be the best in it's class, but I feel like it would get the job done. However, the Tracer is apparently a pretty soft ski for its weight, so I question it's ability to ski through shitty conditions.

The last one is $250, the 173cm Dynafit Beast 108 with Dynafit Radical ST's. These ones seem great and are real cheap, except they're only 173cm and they're also about 4 years old. No idea if that age matters more for a touring ski, I've rode resort skis that old with no problems at all.

So which would you take out of all of these?

If those $800-900 skis are in your budget, I'd just wait a bit. There'll be other, better options that come up in gear swap in that price range (or less).

I put my spring touring gear together for <$500 - k2 wayback 88 + ion 12 + kohla vacuum skins. Outlet so new but previous season stuff… i have my gripes but generally got lucky. But makes me think there’s better value out there.

Bit tipsy so just now realizing I may not have addressed the question, but if question is only which of these to pick, I have no opinion.

Not sure if any are perfect if you are talking longer, low angle. If you are just getting started, go cheap with the $250 option and figure it out from there.

I like the Radicals personally - basic, relatively light. Have the rotations. Seem fine. Heavier. 4 years old seems new to me (still use my 2012 Waybacks).

we are entering the time for used gear sales ut nothing there really sings to me

note the Rads had issues with sploding heelpieces

I think you want a deal with the skins thrown in

I think this is the move. It comes with skins too, so I'll just use it until I get get something optimized through the pro deal and resell it 4 cheep.

If they all come with skins that won't have the be replaced in the next season or so I'd say the Tracers and Beast 108s are your best options. $250 for a setup is a damn good deal if eveything isn't shot.

The beasts are a good ski
If the radicals are only 4y old like the skis they won’t have any issues with heel breakage or exploding, that was with the very first generation of Radicals around 2012. It hasn’t been an issue since (at least not more than any other failure). They are really easy to use and it’s the best tech toe ever made.

If you pass on them can you let me know, I will get them for a friend who is looking for that type of set up.

I'm not your fucking wife, you didnt say it came with skins,

buying skins is probably 40% of the price of a used setup

the rad was/is a pos and at one point I counted 5 different issues not just in the first year the screws are still overstressed by the lifter design and break, I know a guide who blew up 6 sets of RAD1's it was so bad that BC guides could order them on INFOEX the industry only web site for BC guides in BC

but Dynafit's phuckup was good for G3

The Superlight 2.0 (which I think is a Superlight 175) is a fine binding. I actually like the heel risers. I think they fixed the toe breakage issues when they redesigned the toe piece, but you can keep an eye on the toes for cracks. I think it’s a much better binding than the Radical.
