Life link carbon pro pole shortening instructions

Bought a set of these. Even at shortest setting they're long for me. Like to cut them so they're shorter ( will never use them as probe).

I've heard you can remove the tip and obviously the baskets. I'm having a heck of a time doing so and don't want to gorilla and break these carbon things. Any ideas on shortening them by cutting?Click image for larger version.

Ha, that's funny, I have two pair of the same pole that I've had for ever. So you are trying to remove the tips and baskets? The tips are probably glued on. Take the baskets off first, then use a heat gun on the tip to loosen the glue, then they should pull off pretty easily. Sometimes I heat them up, then put clamp the tip loosely in a vice and pull/twist it off. Those poles came with two different tips depending on age. One of mine had a small metal tip glued into the carbon lower instead of the plastic tip that pushes onto the lower. This tip got rounded off/dull so I wanted to replace it. I cut the carbon lower just above the metal tip, then epoxied in a Black Diamond replacement carbide tip. Used masking tape as a kind of form to contain the epoxy. It's held up well.

Thanks! Yup. Trying to remove the tips and baskets and will get out a heat gun.

Also dumb question as I've not owned a pair. How do you remove the baskets? Tried unscrewing by hand but again, don't want to break something.

Also how on earth do you get them to lock into place at interim lengths? There's no locking collar

To get the tips off, boil the tips in water and use pliers to remove.
The baskets pop off. Put the baskets between your boots and pull, careful not to punch yourself in the face.

alibi did donate me a pair of those, but I sure as hell would take another pair if I could find them. I'd take the baskets too.

They lock by twisting the usual way, but the mechanism can be touchy.

    Figured out the locking. Thanks!

Could any of you use the straps? If anyone wants I'll try to take them off and mail them.

They pretty much covered it. Those rubber(flex) tips were hot glued so just rotate with heat gun and pull/twist off(vice helps). Whatever you cut it to length with just have water to keep carbon dust down. Then just reheat/reglue the tip back on. The metal "hard tips" were epoxied.

Like buster said for locking out it's just righty tighty lefty loosy or whatever the equivalent non-freedom unit saying. To engage the lower to the upper just push lower all the way up into the upper and start threading it. The locking mechanisms do fail/slip. The easy fix to try is just use a gun cleaner setup with cleaning cloths and rubbing alcohol. Just run it up and down the upper shaft. You can also heat the grip and pull it off and push out the locking mechanism through the top but go slow so you can see how it goes together. Pretty much just a screw and piece of plastic. We used to send them out with a touch of anti seize on the male/female threads of the lowers.

Buster- I looked and don't have any more pairs of carbon pros or aevs laying around anymore.

I'd love to know where you got them and if they have any more.

those tip assemblies look like what comes on a BD flicklock, I have alwasy just put the pole between a loosely held
pair of skis and give em a yank to get that tip assmebly off

I would shorten them by cutting some off the non-basskette end
