    Stained GoreTex shell - Help!

The back of my shell jacket has a nasty grease stain, there must have been some grease on the back of the chairlift.

I’ve spot treated it with liquid detergent and a toothbrush then washed but the stain remained. Tried spot treating and washing again with liquid detergent mixed with washing soda. No improvement.
Even Simple Green has had no effect, the stain won’t budge.

The manufacturer recommends Graingers or Revivex cleaners but I have a hard time believing they would work any better than liquid detergent or Simple Green.

Any ideas before I bust out the engine degreaser?
    Citrus base cleaner?
At what point will chemicals damage the membrane?

Hadn’t heard of that before. Saw they have a ‘grease, tar, lubcricant’ version. Ordered some to give a try.

Shout with a toothbrush, let it sit overnight before you throw it in the washer. Get the old-school Shout, not the environmentally-friendly one.

If simple green didn't do anything, it's likely permanent. It's basically alcohols and salts in solution, so it should lift petroleum.

You could try De-Solve-It laundry cleaner, or even the citrus cleaner - but I'd check for colorfastness, because that shit's strong. Stinks too.

In the future, always start with Dawn dishwasher soap. It's a good de-greaser and wax remover, but isn't harsh on the fabric or DWR. If that fails, add a little diluted vinegar.

I often leave stuff to soak in the washing m/c, so if I start the cycle but leave the lid up it stops half way thru waiting for me to put the lid down so it can do the spin cycle

    That stain is nothing.

Leave it as is and it will fade over time.

Had the same exact thing happen to my red gore-Tex shell from Crystal mountain lift grease. Dish soap, Shout, powdered detergent in the washer, etc. looked like yours. 6 years later can’t even see it.

I picked up a used Yellow Goretex jacket- it had black grease like stain on the sleeve. I treated it with some WD-40, and also Dish Soap first round. Then did one more round with a bit harsher chemical. It came out eventually. But that area when wetted is not as waterproof as the areas around it. I have not tried to redo with recommended waterproofing like the Graingers or Revivex...

Had a bunch grease drops splash all over a new orange pro shell jacket this year on KT.

Laid the jacket out flat and put little drops of dish soap on each grease spot and then sprinkled some water to dilute it. Let it sit for a long time and worked the diluted dish soap in with my fingers. Repeated a few times. Eventually rinsed thoroughly. Can’t see where they were now. Hoping I didn’t mess up the dwr but next few days of storm skiing seemed just as dry.

I use a citrus cleaner I get from work but any store bought one will work as well. Use a soft bristle toothbrush. Apply cleaner and let soak, re-apply then brush. Let sit. Toss in the wash using Aftko sport wash, double wash and double rinse each time. Dry it. This has removed all stains from my outerwear, grease included in my orange jacket.

Arc’teryx used to recommend KUU Biocitron for stains on their outerwear.

For other citrus cleaners, you can dilute them and test on a small, hidden section of a garment.

How do they even know you had it on there? Are you sending the product back with the tape still on it? Clean the adhesive residue off if sending it in to them.

I have a friend who sent a pair of Arc pants with rips and sled grease everywhere in for a zipper repair. They just sent him new pants. Another friend ruined his jacket through his own stupidity (basically delam and fried the DWR). Sent him a new one as well.

That's one hell of a warranty dept.

They gave me full price credit on softshell pants that were 25% off, replaced a main zip on a Beta shell, fixed 2 pack harnesses,

they replaced a beta shell where that cord around the bottom had come loose and was taped up which is when they pointed out the ductape COULD void the warranty but they replaced it any way

people say they can't afford Arcteryx but i say I can't afford to not buy it

I wouldn't put ductape on but someone might
