Will these skins from my "narrow" skis work for my "wide" skis?

I’m a beginner in ski touring and was wondering if these skins from my narrower ski (106 underfoot) would work on my new wider ski (115 underfoot)?

From what I’ve read I should be ok for 80%-90% of my situations except when it gets technical or icy. To be honest though, I don’t know how often I will be in such situations with my wide skis as I’m happy with simpler objectives and less technical skin tracks. Besides, if I do end up on these routes, I’ll probably be using my narrower ski anyways. I also don’t want to buy more gear if I don’t have to since I’ve only been touring 5 to 10 days a season.

    Any thoughts?

Narrower ski on the left (bottom?), wider ski on the right (top?). I'm not sure why photos upload weird on this forum.

    You will die.

Seriously though, they will work fine, until they don't. And when they don't, you will have a shitty day, and then you will stop being a cheapskate and go buy new skins that fit correctly. I don't know if that day will be tomorrow or five years from now, but you'll hit it at some point.

probably close enough but it might be more dependent on where you are skiing & the conditions IME

I learned 1st hand that at rogers pass with no new snow I would be backsliding into a treewell if i wasnt W2W

so yeah how technical and how icy ?

I'm in the same boat with a ski I rarely use for touring, and even more rarely use for anything involving sketchy skinning. Like adrenalated said, they are good until they aren't.

Either have a backup plan, or be willing to turn around and miss out. My backup for that ski is now crampons, but the only time I was in a real pinch I didnt have cramps and ended up using voile straps wrapped around underfoot for extra traction. Straps weren't ideal, but worked well enough to continue the day.

Why don't split the skins in the middle section (under foot) and open them with the wider skis a bit to cover the edges?
The few mm gap in the middle shouldn't hurt.

I've seen factory cut skins that fit worse than those. You are 100% fine. Go ski.

Don’t overthink it. Try it out. If it doesn’t work, try something different.

I recently used skins off my 178x106 touring skis on my 185x112 daily drivers for laps on Shuksan Arm. I almost died but didn't. I did suffer from a bit of unsolicited advice on how to improve my skin fit.

You'll be ok, it's not optimum but it's not bad enough to not try it.

Skinned up east coast manmade with 85 mm wide skins on 106 underfoot skis Sunday. No issues
