    bottom bracket choices

I'm done with Kogel bottom brackets. When they work they work fantastic, but I'm tired of the finicky (or plain bad?) seals and having to pull the cranks after any mildly wet ride to avoid seizing and corrosion. For the price this is no bueno. I live, ride in PNW so wet is just part of the deal. This is for a BSA threaded application, Shimano 24mm spindle. Current need is for mtb/xc and eventually cx (also BSA) when the other kogel bites it. Of course I want low drag, great seals which fight each other.

    Some options i'm considering

    XTR SM-BB93 <$50
cheap. Haven't used one in years. How is drag and seal performance?

    Praxis Works
Also pretty cheap at <$50. Use Enduro 2437 bearings, which I think are Enduro's mid grade offering. I have a Praxis on my Rodeo Labs which has been flawless for 4000+ miles. Leaning this way.

    Cane Creek HellBender 70 $120
has some new SKF "solid" bearing tech? Sounds too good to be true. But, if true, could be the ticket as I buy one and ignore it forever

    Enduro X15 $wtf?!?
If a relative suddenly dies and I'm in their will, I guess this is an option. A bikeradar review ran it without seals!!! through their testing and it performed flawlessly.

Hambini - Also $$$$ but would be cool to support the 5-year old.

Others? personal experience with any of the above? thanks!

Never heard of kogel. Can't even tell you what I'm running now but would guess Shimano XT. Cheap and lasts pretty well. Raceface used to be the bomb but their stuff has become more hit and miss. I still think Chris king and hope are good, but more $$$

Chris King if you only want to buy it once. https://chrisking.com/blogs/news/the...etime-warranty

In my bikes I have a mix of BBs from FSA, Cane Creek, Enduro, and Chris King. All are solid but to me, Chris King is the way to go for serviceable + warranty. All the other bottom brackets are pretty high end ones and are running well too.

Went through the whole internet rabbit hole on this recently and ended up with a trusty and cheap XT (M800 I believe).

thanks all. I had a CK BB for years, but got sick of having to service, rebuild it due to stuff getting past the seals. That's what pushed me to Kogel at the time which were bragging about seal quality. I think I'm leaning towards XT/XTR or Praxis just to avoid another expensive experiment.

Cheap Shimano and replace as needed. They last quite well. No idea about drag.

I put Wheels Mfg angular contact BBs on everything. They aren't cheap, but I like everything else about them

^ Also my route for a BSA BB. I'd argue the BSA bottom brackets are the easiest to swap, especially with a Shimano crankset.

I’ve had great luck with M800 bbs.
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Threaded. Write your favorite bike company and tell them to go back to threaded Bottom Brackets. A BB should be as easy to swap out as a pair of brake pads.
However many are in a shit ton.

This is the obvious answer. Who cares about the cost when there's a YouTube channel full of reaming gold?!

Putting the lower cost Hellbender in my new bike. Never tried one but have heard really good things. The lifetime warranty one was more than double the cost so passed on that one.

had a praxis bottom bracket on a bike for 5 years and did not need to touch it once, and it spun smoothly until the day i sold the bike. i don't live in the PNW, but ride through all seasons and conditions short of full-on downpour in the mid atlantic and it served me well enough.

I went with Wheels Mfg as well. Made it through a couple muddy races, spins smooth.
