Depends on the snow, tbh. If it's funky, I'm on 118 or protest. If it's deep and right side up, I'm on 106 in the front of the boot, just diving tips for the continuous faceshot. Try it out, it's a blast.

Moved the mount point on my QST 106 skis to +1.5. Wow what a difference that made. So much more balanced, don't feel like they're always trying to throw me in the back seat anymore. Had a really fun day on them today. Thanks to all who recommended going forward.
Felt the same and I'm similar size (5'7 150 on 181). They ski weird on the line - I'm not sure I experienced getting thrown backseat, but they were just hard to be quick with, and kind of hard to get turning on groomers (I ski very forward too). Mounted forward they are super quick, ski pow great (see above), rail groomers, and are probably my favorite ski. I think I'm mounted +2.

I'd like to try it a little forward, but I'm not sure I'd want any less tip in front of me in soft snow. But now that I have the Blanks maybe that's not an issue. Groomers are the one place I don't like the 106's and maybe the forward mount would help that?

Obviously depends on your style, but I found them way better in soft after moving them up. On the line it felt like the tip could get kind of wrenched around / wrench me around. Forward I feel in full control over where the tip goes, and it got easier to change turn shape mid turn.

If you're on fixed clamps, I have a pair that have demo clamps on them that you can try to mess around with. I live in cottonwood heights during the winter; out of town this weekend but will be back Tuesday afternoon.

I'm not sure if that's exactly what I was feeling but something just seemed off. I was on the fence about paying somebody to remount forward (I don't do my own) or just cutting my losses and selling them. Glad I chose to try the remount. I think I'll like these skis. Definitely quicker to get around and more balanced. Fun on the steep chalk and firm groomers. Also got into some funky chunky pow and they did a good job there too.

Curious if anyone else has had success mounting the 189cm QST 106 forward of the line. I see the 189 has a recommended mount point of -8.2, whereas the 181 version has a recommended mount point of -9.4, so I understand why people on the 181 would want to bump 1cm forwards, but I'm less sure how necessary it is on the 189.

For reference, here's my experience on some other skis:
190 Wildcat (recommended at -6 was mostly good, but occasionally felt too far forward for me when skiing in heavier chop, but I'm 6'4", so that probably has something to do with it. I think I would have liked -7)
192 Rustler 11 (recommended at -7.7, surprisingly felt too far back. The 192 is a good bit heavier and stiffer than the other lengths, and I actually remounted at +1 to reduce swing weight at the tips)
191 Enforcer 115 (recommended at -8.8 felt perfect. The 2020 version of this ski was 2450g's which was just too much for me sidestepping around Alta. However, I highly recommend the newer versions of this ski to anyone who's even remotely curious. It's just an incredibly balanced ski)
192 Protest (recommended at -8 felt good. Could imagine going forward, but never backwards. Really don't understand how so many people on TGR report tip dive at -8)

Asked the same question above... I mounted before knowing this information on mount point and so dropped in at +1.5 on my 189 which feels good, but I wonder if it would feel better back closer to the line.

On hardpack, and this might be just the ski design vs. mount point, the wide point of the tip feels a bit too close to the bindings.

Didn't know what to do, so I mounted my 189's 0.5 forward of the line and am happy there. For what it's worth, I'm sure I would be happier at recommended than I would be at +1.
The skis are so pivoty, easy to slide around, and forgiving that I don't see any need to go forward. Meanwhile, as tupp said above, the significant tip taper means that there's not a whole lot of ski to really press into when you're skiing on harder snow. Keep in mind, I'm 6'4"

One other reference point - I spoke to a Salomon athlete who's name starts with D. He was mounting up a pair of 189's and said he always goes +1 on them.

Got the chance to ski the 2024 QST 106 (189-cm) this past weekend at Whistler. I really enjoyed them off trail in the fresh snow. They were very easy to pivot with a loose tail as others have mentioned. I was pleasantly surprised with how hard I could push them on soft groomers. However, as the groomers got beat up and off piste transitioned to crud, they started to struggle. I also felt like I wanted to be a bit more forward on them, so could see going +1 or +2. I prefer my 186 Blanks for this slot (more stable but still playful), but could see a lighter skier really enjoying them as a soft snow all-mountain ski.

Did they change them or are they same as last year?
