    We used to have Deep Throat, then it was The Throat, and now it is off the map. They really don't have many names on the map anymore. Seems to be the new trend.

    So accessible and so rad in Spring.

    Ottime posted some rad memories. That used to be my home. Thanks for that.

    Pipeline is sick and must be so filled in this year.

    Pipeline runs form he ridge parallel to Sally Alley, which it a big wide obvious line. Stovepipe is the super thin coolie that runs from in-between the two lines and dumps into Sally Alley. I've never got into Stovepipe, but would love to. This is probably the year.

    And yeah, that side country zone is amazing. Head just a little further out, and and you get even more rad terrain.

    KW is a small, short resort, but packed with great terrain and the side country options are pretty amazing

    Pipeline is completely filled in. The big rock in the crux is gone. Still scary though bc of the hard windpack from the 190 mph E wind - made the whole thing a no fall zone. Scot Schmidt jump turns top to bottom. Stovepipe, as you describe it, would require WAY too much time pointed down the fall line in the hard pack for this guy. Maybe different on a softer day or during corn season.

    I'm hoping for a day on the next ridge over (No Name?) that you see from the top of Cali Chute. Lines in there look like a Valdez heli ski commercial RN - just huge amounts of snow.

    At the risk of talking about Fight Club, some of the more popular areas not listed on the map are
    * Tunnel of Love
    * Fairyland
    * Cry Baby

    Cali Chute is kind of a no name. It is just Peak 9795; labeled as its elevation. Melissa Coray is the peak with the radio tower.

    The AK Face (as we've called it) SE of 9795 has a proper name. Something like Coray Locaine, but I don't think that is quite right. That face is insane, but kind of short on vertical. The more eagerly face going down to 4th of July Lake takes a ton of snow to become skiable. Might be worth a look this year. It is not as steep, but has kind of a terraced effect.

    There is a No Name peak off 108. Not sure if there is one with that name by KW.

    Tits Up. As far as I know it's never been on any of the maps at Big Sky. Rarely open/skiable.

    At Alpental there's a small parking area by the river across from Shot 10 affectionately known as "Covington" because that's where the white trash parks

    Sun Peaks' Gils Hill area has Liz's Hot Steaming Shaft. Named after a local who moved to Kicking Horse with her boyfriend when it first opened. She subsequently got barred from the bar for unacceptable behaviour.

    Anyways, the last time I was in Liz's Hot Steaming Shaft it was obvious that others had been before me, but there was plenty of room, and it was creamy.

    Skied Promo Chute and Sally Alley this weekend. Spoke to another mag who said he calls Sally Alley "Turkey Chute" (Shoot?). Yet another said he calls it Corner Pocket, which we always call the wide bowl to the lookers left of Diagonal Chute, which is what those guys went to ski, but they called it Boulevard instead.

    This is why we have maps...

    I'm completely enamored with Wolf Creek. I would guess 50% of the named runs aren't even on the map. The names of lifts aren't on the lifts or maybe painted on a piece of plywood stuck in the snow. It's the anti-mega resort. A patroller at Monarch told me they were looking at a new area in the cat skiing and were thinking of naming it Betty White.

    Paging @Mudfoot on the history of the "Old Guy Half Pipe" we've been skiing since long before Silverton Mtn was established. It's up two ridges from the proposed new Silverton lift and feeds into Velocity Basin:

    Corner Pocket is further right of Boulevard, which I've called Main Street. Broadway is the easy way in that crosses diagonal near the top and dumps you into Boulevard/ Main Street/ Corner Pocket. But my Corner Pocket is an entrance just a bit further off to the lookers right.

    Agree with maps, but hard to put the BC onto resort maps.

    Got me thinking about how when KW put those rope tows in, I was pretty against it, cause it brought way more people over to Fawn Ridge, but then I learned that Emigrant laps suddenly were super quick, with no climb up Covered Wagon. Then Vail took them out, cause they were too much work for that company, and now everyone traverses the fuck out of the wave to hit lower Fawn and Emigrant takes more time to access.

    I've heard Turkey Shoot (Chute) as well. Which one is Promo? I imagine the corn face skiers right of Sally/ Turkey is filled in well.

    Ottime— Is Y Chute above wagon wheel? We used to call that The Funnel.

    Is it still the Nostril off Norm’s Nose, too?

    Did the name Mushroom Rock stick around? Surely, Kodak Rock still exists.

    Y Chute is in Thunder Saddle, lookers right of the Handrail.

    Funnel is Funnel.

    Yes on the Nostril. Left and Right. Right is the higher up on skiers right. Left is lower, skiers left and accessible from Chair 11.

    Kodak for sure. Not sure about Mushroom. I've never heard that one, but there are so many features etc not on the map.

    I love learning a hill and the nooks and crannies. When I ride a chair with Patrol, I try to learn the patrol names for locations. It also helps in case something ever goes sideways and there's a need to report location.

    Promo is a little side entrance lookers right of Cali Chute, that drops you into the Cali Chute apron after a choke.

    Skiers right of Sally is indeed filled in. Was just a tad too cold for corn the other day but good smooth turns nonetheless.
