What's the locals name of runs not on the map where you ski?

Every freakin rock, stump, outcrop and funny looking or not tree has a name at BB. Many have 2 or 3 names including the adult as well as G rated ones, some similar, some totally different. Love hearing the stories about how they got the love.

Well, then there are the patrol names. At Santa Fe; Bob’s Rock, Pee Chutes, Rocky Flats, The Diamond*, Cabin Chute*, The Luge*, The Goombas*, Sweaty Ball Sack, The Notch, The Grassy Knoll, Mayday Trees*, 3rd Island, Patrol Glade, Swimming Pool Chutes*, Glad Happy*, Ivan’s*, My Happy Place, Benny’s Cliff, Glenn’s Gully…

* Those places might actually be more locals’ names.

Purgatory used to have a run named 666, everyone called it Sixes, but management decided that was too scary/offensive to Texas clientele and changed it on the map to "No Mercy". Everyone still called it Sixes.

Looks like newer management redeemed themselves, because it's back to 666 on the map.

No, actually (though it would fit if it was). I started working there in the 92-93 winter and it was already No Mercy, I was so confused by my coworkers saying "let's go hit Sixes." I think it was a pretty new change then, but don't know if that was the first year or not.

It was the fucking Baptist church groups that raised a stink about it, and our old ceo caved. Glad it's back.

Purg doesn't have enough terrain to elicit secret runs, but of course patrol has a name for every feature on the hill. Shotgun Flats, Reefer Rock, Chicken Bend, the Dome, Chocolate Drop, ad nauseum.

But we've got some OB lines like dirty laundry, south chute, fangora, etc.

One that made me chuckle at Vail is Sheika's Crack, right next to Pepi's Face (after Pepi's wife, Sheika).

It connects 2 glade runs and is somewhat fitting. It is more of a trail than a run and traverses across the forest.

Are Topher's skis still there?

The entire North Face of Crested Butte is full of named features that don't grace the official maps. And the names are important for navigation unless you enjoy unannounced, mandatory air.

Yep. It took me many years of staring at the Extreme Limits map to figure them out. Some of my favorite names are actually on the frontside, too- penis envy and pygmy spear garden to name a couple.

I've come up with some good ones in the backcountry: Super Happy Fun Land, unless someone doesn't know it- then I change it to Super py Dumb Land with the hopes that they won't go there.
