Your wood blocks are cool and all, but brakes in the way annoy me. The Amazon link I posted was to the Tools4boards lasso clamp that jmills recommended. It works well and is super quick and easy once you figure out whatever binding you’re working with. $20 for just the lasso, which is what I was really going for anyways.
    focus.

That's why I use broccoli elastics to hold back the brakes.

Those are fun when they snap and the brakes engage on your fingers mid-tune.

Doubling up helps, but they are still a PITA.

    what vises do you use?

I tie brakes down with a lasso tied with climbing skin trimmings, glue side down and if it fails it engages slow

Heh. Haven’t had them break yet.

But you can buy ski brake rubbers for dirt cheap. It’s not that expensive and they work.

Yeah, got rubber bands for the brakes. I've only snapped my fingers by incompetence so far.

make 2 of those ^^ and screw them to your bench, the crosspieces need to give enough room to clear the binding hanging down ( FR+ heel wants more room) move them around depending on what you want to hold, it will hold a snow board if you move them closer.

Its wide enough for 2 skis, the slot holds the ski/ board on edge, if you don't make the slot too wide the ski or board jams in it and doesnt need securing, I've had climbing skin scraps on top of the upright but its not really needed,

I hold brakes up with voile straps or a small screwdriver or whatever is handy

minus drill & pencil that pict is an entire universal ski layout kit, obviously I would want more for production to make it faster but that simple kit is all you need to mount a binding once a year

Good to know. For the fly fishing mags, I've found the new rubber tippet spool covers made by SA & Umpqua work pretty well.

I’m impressed, but I wax a couple times/week and I’m not fucking around with broccoli rubber bands or tippet spool covers.

FYI. For fat ski brakes you just loop two broccoli bands together.

    You’re welcome

You know you can make great and durable straps for the brakes with some smaller gauge bungee cord. Just tie a loop the appropriate length. No snapping and it works really well

Do know how much broccoli you can buy with $20? I have about 100,000 brake bands worth of bailing string out in the barn right now if anyone is in need.

Basic and functional. Some times I clamp it down. Mostly just use it sitting on the bench. I found a elastic band with a push button lock I’m using for the break. Para cord and one of those drawstring plastic clips works if rubber bands are not your thing.

Started tuning in a shop in Langhorne, PA around 1989. They provided these and I’ve used them ever since. Last forever and you won’t snap a finger.

T Style Snowboard clamped to the folding Tool Bench that have the rubber pads. To add support at the tips and tails I got 2 of the Harbor Freight roller stands on sale cheap. Cleat or bungy to hold the ski if needed and rubber bands to hold the brakes out of the way. Or the wrist bands like the knockoffs of LiveStrong...

Total for all the items- bench, snowboard T stands, and the 2 roller stands probably less than $100 on coupon sales with HF.

Old bike inner tubes work great at brake retainers. Just cut a ring and good to go. If it’s too tight, then girth hitch 2 rings together.

I picked up a set of eggbar vices cheap used. They are weird to look at, but they work great! Best feature is how easy it is to rotate through skis, zero setup / fiddling.Name: EV_tubevise_with_ski_grande.jpeg

I use an old BCA Alpine Trekker and normal bench vise. I just snap the trekker into the binding, and use my normal bench vise to grab the trekker itself. Its super stable and was a $0 setup for me. win. Bonus is that because the trecker snaps into the binding, the brakes go up as well so no need for rubber bands or anything. Also, the trekkers are adjustable to match bootsoles, so this setup works for my skis , and whoever else's.

This is the YouTube video on how to build a "portable" version of this bench.i think I'll modify mine to include a lasso clamp instead of the cam strap.

if you makes the slot to hold the ski on edge narrower ( 1/2 inch ) the ski can only go so far before the thicker center of the ski jams in one or the other up rights so that way you don't need to secure the ski

I make the uprights stand-alone so I can easily unscrew the DW screw holding them & move them around on my bench to fit whatever I am working on

before I had a permanent work bench I made pretty much the same jig to fit in my black and decker workmate
