Lon Gisland man dies snowboarding at indoor Fridge in NJ

    https://nj1015.com/li-man-falls-to-h...merican-dream/

A Long Island man fell backwards while snowboarding at Big Snow inside the American Dream entertainment complex Thursday night.

State Police responded to the indoor ski area in the Meadowlands around 9:15 p.m. for the report of an unresponsive man who had been snowboarding, Trooper Charles Marchan told New Jersey 101.5. Sarah Mathews told Newsday her brother, Airman First Class Peter R. Mathews of the Maryland Air National Guard, fell backward and hit his head.

Been here with the boy, its not bad and was fun to ski in August last year. Dont see how anyone could gravely injure themselves though. Snow Quality isnt bad and its tiny

It's sad, not sure if wearing a helmet but obviously that can make a huge difference.. there's a point for everyone learning to snowboard that you fall back and hit your head and that is the deciding moment for many.

The near certainty of catching a frontside edge and getting shitwhipped into the ground is what has kept me from ever trying to snowboard. When my coworkers mention they are going to go on a ski vacation or for a day and are thinking about trying to learn to snowboard i tell them not to and to learn to ski instead. Waaaaay easier on the body to learn to ski.

RIP. Kind of a freak way to go out.

yea, my buddy tried snowboarding one weekend we went to Killington..

it was funny>because he ended up unhurt; but wow -the number of front edge slams and cart wheels he did was unreal...eliminated snowboarding from my "to do "list after that day.

Lon Gisland....sounds like a pseudo porno name

    *sorry for boarder dude.RIP

Sorry to hear this, in the Air Force family.
It doesn't have to be difficult to get hurt. People die falling in their bathroom.
Maybe I didn't read carefully, but I didn't see any mention of whether he was wearing a helmet, which is shocking in a snowsport death story.

Toe side you can at least put your hands out and break your fall slightly. Heelside is another story.

I rode a Burton back hill in the backcountry while you were in diapers!

But mad respect to the ice boarders. They tell me it’s easier since all you’re weight is on one edge. I’m not buying it. They are just better.

Powder boarding is amazing. I’ll pass on the ice.

Probably not, I was taking backwards skateboard decks down my front yard in '85 and riding ice coast lifts (once boards were allowed) by 1990. But point taken.

Not quite 30 years ago, wearing helmet. Didn't die
