Here is the rocker profile, Meter-Man

(EDIT - or so I thought. feel free to text/email me. I think there is a little funny angle thing going on with the tail pic above)

TFW...the loving and attentive creator has read your negative comment and responded with equanimity...

There must be a word in German for it.

I'll ping you for the rocker pic - thank you for offering.

Sidenote: I rode last night with my new to me Lab Austere Ultimate Trail Backpack, and it was frickin awesome. Absolutely perfect for my use-case: all-day rides and "coaching" the NICA team. Thanks!

MO, earlier this fall, you wrote the below about the 122 v. 132 comparison. Can you (or anyone else) add any more to this discussion on the differences here?

Quote:I haven't gotten on my UT122 quite yet... but 6-12" away from that, so hopefully this weekend. From a design perspective, they are for sure going to be much more similar than different. Built around same construction, same flex pattern and stiffness profile, and similar rocker profile. Both are going to be absolute lightsabers in untracked wild snow.Where I think the difference will stand out... the 132 just has more taper, so a level up in breakable crust and windskin, but a little more neutral stance too. The 122 has less taper in comparison (but far more than most skis), so a little more able to pressure the tip and a touch more support fore-aft in comparision. And of course, being narrower is a little easier when on an established skin track, where the 132 is (IMO) an absolute dream breaking trail. Not sure if helpful, but my honest 0.02

Does it feel planky or hard to exit a turn? I tried a BC110 and felt that way about the tail - wondering how the 122 compares. (I also own the C132. It is an awesome ski but thinking of looking for something with a bit more fore-aft stability…like the 122.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
    Short answers:

    • How does it ski? Surfy, slarvy, and fast is how I'd describe it's character. Super stable, kinda begs you to go straight and fast. It'll turn though, I would describe it as an intuitive ski that still requires input.
    • Does the tail release easily? That tougher for me to say, honestly. I've only had them out a couple days, and in low density unconsolidated snow the tails released whenever you wanted them to, or not. In hot pow I didn't really try to slarve them around too much, it was low angle so I was more surf-carving or whatever. Down low in some really manky, grabby, bullshit snow with tired legs and a head cold I was having trouble getting them to come around corners—but also that was on an exit fire road which is something I suck at skiing on any ski.
    • It doesn't feel planky to me, especially in deeper unconsolidated snow. It has a fun springy-ness to it that allows you to keep momentum on flatter terrain but is still really composed hauling ass in steeper spots.
    • The only place I found it hard to exit a turn was in the aforementioned manky grabby bullshit snow on the road exit I skied. But I very much doubt that's the ski.
The older I get, the faster I was.

    Punch it, Chewie.

    Damn he seems cool.

First day on the 183cm UT122s, mounted @ -8. Holy shit! They were immediately intuitive (helped the snow was perfect), great float, and fast! Definitely more nimble than the 132s. Really awesome tree ski, but definitely not problem putting the gas pedal down as the terrain opened up. I’m pretty certain these will be great with lighter boots (zero g peak carbon) for bigger days too. Well done (again) Marshall!

Mine showed up today, thanks Marshal! I’m perhaps not going to get them mounted this season but I’m definitely very stoked to have them ready for deep days to come. I think they will be a near daily driver midwinter….

Zero G Pro today, but am pretty confident the Zero G Peak will be enough when conditions are good.

MO or anyone else, can you compare the UT122 to the venerable (but hard to find) Volkl BMT 122? Weight, width, rocker profile all look potentially similar; tip and tail tapers are certainly more pronounced on the UT122. Maybe the Faction La Machine is similar to the BMT 122 (but is it?), otherwise there doesn't seem to be much else out there.

Isn’t the UT one twenty two just a lighter Renegade? Rocker, taper, radius and dimensions are basically identical.

Affirmative, the Ren was the inspiration for the UT122. And also yeah it's basically just a lighter touring version of the Ren, but with a large flat section in the middle of the reverse camber, which I like as it should improve skinning performance compared to the Ren. Mine came in at around 100grams over HLs stated weight for my 183s. I just received mine last week. They are effing gorgeous!

I also received my one eight three UT one twenty twos last week. They are beautiful.

I bot them cause I sold my Renegades that had Duke PT’s…..cause I wanted a lighter, but similar ski. Putting ATK’s on mine.

The latest GEAR:30 blister podcast has Paul Forward saying a few words about his time on a couple of HL skis, mostly BC120 and UT122.

Finally figured out how to make photos work again. Can confirm that the UT122s are the perfect good viz big mountain counterpart to the HL 132s </p>

What bindings do you have on them? Great photo and congrats posting those up.

I need to get my [emoji637][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji640]][emoji639] UT[emoji637][emoji638][emoji638]’s mounted!!!!!

Interpreting that Paul Forward is thinking to put alpine clamps on his UT[emoji637][emoji638][emoji638]’s for Heli-skiing, not as much for touring

Sounds like he just absolutely loves the BC[emoji637][emoji638][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]] for big mountain touring, so that might be part of his decision to go alpine clamps on the UT[emoji637][emoji638][emoji638]’s

Finally got that elusive [emoji637][emoji639][emoji638] day, where I wish I wasn’t on anything else. I get it now. Such a magical ski for the right conditions. Stoke is trough the roof!

Looks like Volkl has a new Revolt 122 coming out that looks a lot like the UT122. Kye Petersen shows off the proto with a slow taper in the Natural Selection Alaska YouTube replay at 1:09.00.
