A bright note from the region, Maine paved 16 from the NH border to Rangeley

Still raining, hard, but very little hydroplaning or standing water all the way to Errol

And 17 North of Height of Land is under construction; in its current, torn and smoothed state, it's a hell of a lot better than it was in April.

Flash Flooding here in the NEK last night. There was a localized band of storms that hovered over an area between Burke and the Willoughby highland. The train of rain didn't move east but it remained on a stationary SW>NE track and dumped almost 4" of rain in 2 hours. There was a very sharp cutoff line for the rain. My house on a hill just north of Lyndonville got .25 inches and no flooding/major road washout. 2 miles away got 4" and this...

And there are a bunch more roads like this throughout northern Caledonia County this morning.

Now the smoke is supposed to roll back in today before MORE rain on Tuesday.

    Crazy weather.

Vibes just don't cut it in circumstances like this. Let's hope FEMA and DOT treat this as a catastrophic event so full federal funding can help these small towns pay for all the repairs.

Shocked if that doesn’t happen. The struggle will be getting the resources to fix all the problems. Maine, NH and Upstate are all dealing with similar problems but on a smaller scale.

I'm just concerned the event earlier this week will get attention but these 'aftershocks' won't get help.

I would assume it all gets rolled into the same fema response.

That looks to be the case:
Incident Period: Jul 7, 2023 and continuing.
    Declaration Date: Jul 14, 2023
    https://www.fema.gov/disaster/4720

Although they may need to expand the "individual assistance" area at this point.

Morning news said that there are FEMA officials on the ground inspecting and expect that others counties will be added soon.
Those short term rainfall totals in the Kingdom are pretty wild..

Been avoiding the bad shit in the MRV so far even though I am close to 10" of rain since this started.

Having watched a couple of towns I lived in go through the process to get FEMA to pay for infrastructure damage, it seems reasonable (a pain in the ass, but I find that reasonable when you're spending the amount of money that's usually involved). However, as someone already pointed out, you still need to find folks who can actually do the work.

Private driveways, recreational trails, and certain other stuff doesn't usually get covered; the amount of moisture currently in the soil and the height of bodies of water is keeping me a bit nervous; we don't have the excess handling capacity we usually do this time of year, and we're approaching hurricane season.

    Everything open through Londonderry?

    VT511 not clear.

I need to head to MA tomorrow, usually faster if I head that way rather then south to Route 2.

^ It's iffy depending on the time of day and what the repair crews are doing. When we left on Sunday, everything was open but there may be some slowdowns and backups. I would take the sure bet and take 7 down to 2.
