If you don't do Tux this year, you'll be one year older when you do. I wen't up to be at the party and be able to say I skied "in" Tuckerman. Booted up to Lunch Rocks and skied down. Crowd went silent.
Seeker of Truth. Dispenser of Wisdom. Protector of the Weak. Avenger of Evil.
^^ i'm very glad he's ok but there's a bit of unintended physical comedy in the way he just slowly slid to the (doubtlessly horrified) onlookers.

Tux sure is a shit show of truly epic proportions, but something you HAVE to do as an east coast skier. I doubt anyone there expected anything less.
We used to hang out there in the late 80s-early 90s. There are so many other stellar skiing opportunities in the Presidentials and beyond. Although when the weather is good it's a fun place to base yourself and spend a few days midweek.
It's been a good run. Loved seeing the Duchess grab, such a beautiful line with it's hourglass profile and mid line choke. Also so exposed and visible so ski your best.
Wish I had made it to Saddleback, hoping to meet Mrs. Cross this summer unless she is sailing the northern seas again.
33º and snowing lightly bob w/approx 5/8" on the ground. bush reporting an inch but somehow bumped the season total from 192" > 195" overnight?
The Whales got flattened last night but were soft and large late afternoon yesterday. One nasty 8+" glide crack about 3/4 of the way down, glad that'll be gone.
The latest "Save the" project is "Save Coffee Run" , over the years hiking the last of Steins I noticed there are 4 failed waterbeds that dump water under the pile, fixing them would help save the snow.
Top of Lower 'Grinder getting thin. I don't think HG will last to the weekend, but hiking for Upper OG will be a great way to escape the crowd.

A good run indeed! The VT-F prescience on the RC title was uncanny. Hopefully not over yet. I can usally count 60 days slidding on snow with a combination of cross country, local pow surfing and bump hiking along with resort and touring days, but this season I hit 60 purely snowboarding and touring. Went hard. Shredded with multiple mags and reconnected with legendary non-mags now that we are "back to normal". Duchess was most definitely a highlight.
Shot of Duchess for posterity before the deed.

Nice pics, dudes! Sad I couldn't make the Dutchess trip, looks so stellar.
Anyone see this awful idea?

ETA: looks like Mont Edouard got some snow last night and coverage is insane there. For anyone that doesn't know this is in the snowbelt of Quebec. An old instructor told me about 17 times on a chair at Tremblant. Never asked if I had been, but he sure told me.

Danmelon..Duchess is a great run indeed. Thanks for bringing back memories of my one and only run down the Duchess.
Here's a few old photos from April 2001 when a buddy and I skied it. Sorry low quality cell phone picks of old paper photos. 2001 had great coverage. Does it ever fill in like that anymore on Mt. Wash? Was a hat trick of runs that day, Duchess, Princess, the hanging snowfield lookers right of Duchess, and some other obscure run down the Boot Spur ridge from Dodges.

Could easily skin to the top of the christmas tree.
Little Headwall was a boulevard that year. Even the Lions Head had a big snow gully a little ways down from the Lobster Claw.
Good times!!

woah looks super fat for April! Upon first looking at the photos I was going to ask if that is in winter but then I re-read your post. Nice that you did Princess (or maybe its Empress?), looks like it can connect all the way down in your photo... Did you have to downclimb at all?
Thanks for sharing!!

I'm not sure we're getting less snowfall (ty sucked) or if we're just getting more warmer days mixed in eating the snowpack. It does seem worse than it used to be...or I'm just old and senile.

The hazy days of spring ^^
44º and overcast bob with a slight whisper of wind. Last day for HG and Bravo with some dirt dodging here and there. Caught my last spin to the top yesterday and hoping some snow up high survives the rain for hike laps.
The kinda flattened the whales but not really earlier this week. Just a bit off the top it seems which is crap and all of the hackers stay up there stopping and starting several times per run. The sides ski well and are entertaining.
Heading to K soon for some turns til one then off to RCAC for late lunch/brews. Buckets photos have me wishing I could have been there yesterday.
