Sunday River reported 4" this morning and upped it to 6" on the afternoon update. I'd concur, and that may have even been an underreport at first; there was clearly some variation due to wind and time of grooming, but skiing stuff that had been groomed before the snow landed was quite pleasant.

I heard a couple of reports of good skiing in the woods, but my forays off the groomed stuff were loud and almost as slick as the XC trailhead parking lot that forced me to engage 4WD last night. If we could stay below freezing and get some more snow, even a little at a time, things could get quite good.

6º and breezy bob with a dusting of snow over a glaze of ice.

Like a kid awakening to an empty tree after the Grinch visited the 5-6" of snow that arrived overnight was a letdown from the 12-18" promised only 6 hours prior. But like the residents of Whoville we kept to our plan because of course, Skiing is Fun!

lots of lurking ice made things interesting early on but the lower angle options turned out to be pretty nice.

The guy from PineTreeWeather.com did a pretty good job in the days leading up to the storm explaining why he thought it would underperform relative to the models, and my tl;dr understanding is that the modeling generally underestimates the blocking and staying power of big cold air mattress in this type of storm.

I like that dude's style and yes, he did nail the system and was early to suggest it would likely underperform.

    No, gladezzz.

Single is an awesome host and guide. Somehow, we got 4” of snow last night and the trees skied great this morning. Got a little sportier on the higher ungroomed trails but a great day to remind us that skiing is fun!

Rumford Whitecap is finally in shape with something skiable on just about every aspect. There are also much less skiable spots on every aspect too.

Got out with Peruvian today for a tour after another underwhelming storm. We found some stick stoke.

After struggling to find his line through the schwack, Peruvian decide to air it all out.

There was some fluff on top of the crust and Peruvian found it.

We both agreed that it was great, but it was the bestday so far for this winter.

    Touché

Glad you have some snow to ski on in the Kingdom.

Out Friday for a 5 hour tour with LJ and K.
Lack of stream freeze over meant a lot of tricky crossings up and back. I fucked up on the way out and dunked my skis when a bank collapsed. Fortunately it was cold enough that my skins froze as soon as I scraped the mush off and were able to glide nicely.

Temp kept dropping during the tour to the point we could slowly ascend keeping shell and helmet on without getting too hot.

Light snow falling bob at 8º and no wind. Good day to do some light touring from the door.
