Thought we would do some mixed alpine to avoid the hoards. Only saw 9 people on the ridge.

Visibility was a bit difficult.

Sunday was some backyard exploring.

And some tasty turns.

Puking snow on the way out, but raining back at home.

I was on the hill until about 11 am this morning. I can't speak to other parts of the mountain, but the Barker quad line never looked to be horrible, and by 10:30 it was under 10 minutes. Took a lap over to check out Merrill Hill with one of the guys I work with, skied onto that lift, and then had a short wait to get onto the South Ridge quad to get back to Barker. Trails had people on them but it wasn't Killington on a weekend crazy, so I'd think the parking and road access is currently the limiting factor for total capacity.


I hadn't heard about the salad issue, when/where was that?

Was there as well until 12:30-1. First chair right to Jordan until crowd showed around 9:15, Aurora until 10:15, spruce for a few then T2 and WH laps. Never waited more than 45 seconds at a lift.

To be fair, I've never skied Sunday River or anywhere around it, so I don't know all of the parking lots that were called out. However, I've traveled US 2 a lot and instantly recognized the spot. And I know that if it's backed up on 2 all the way to the brewery, then that's teh suck. That store in the picture is where I often buy a sub for lunch. And it's where I flip a coin and either stay on 2 until Norridgewok or take ME 26 and subsequent state routes out to Manchester on I-95.

it had to have stayed snow at jay, i went for a
xc ski and it felt the coldest it did all winter with my face getting sandblasted by the wind. hey,
the lifts were probably on hold too…

. Crowds. Snow is great. The place is way less busy today. Snow is great right now. On ursa headed up for another one now. Love first tracks

We got a late start and didn't get on the lifts until 9:30 at the Sun Bowl and the lift to the top was on wind hold (shooting star?) as was the gondola so long lines everywhere although they move pretty quickly. Conditions were a far cry from the previous 2 Sundays. After a while the place started emptying out and we left at 2. Good day on the hill.

Can confirm we’ve been stuck in a pretty sweet pattern up here.



Went up for night rips. Wasn’t expecting another pow day yesterday, but I’ll take it! (Sorry I suck at photos)

MNIAW, myself, and 3 non-mag buddies headed up to the Chic Chocs last week. The avy forecast kept harping in the 9 cm ice crust that was due to a mid-Jan rain event. Hopes were moderated.

Before skiing we spent a night at the Gite du Mont Albert. Classy shit there.



The bison tenderloin was delicious.



The next day we skied into the Refuge des Mines-Madeleine in a storm with wind gusts that had to approach 50mph straight into our faces. The 12.5k ski in really took it out of me and I ended up with some wicked blisters that hampered my entire trip.



We headed up through the Window Trees the next morning to ski the chutes as it seemed that the snow deposited in there. The forecast was for 15-30cm and we found that and more.













Look closely and you can see three of our crew trying to find the top of theApostrophe S chute.



The following day we sought fresh tracks in the next ridge over thinking we might find similar conditions.



You’ll note that the ridge makes a horseshoe shape which ended up catching the western wind and swirling it in every which direction. As we stated at the time, the snow was “wind fucked”. We had to bail when we couldn’t skin over a small ridge.

Back over to Window Trees we went. We knew the protected chutes were skied out so we stayed lower and ended up trying to transition on a very steep and precarious slope.



The way down had some wind affected snow but was still great skiing.

Friends found a shot that really delivered.



It’s a long drive to the Gaspe and it will be many years before I do it again, but it’s a great spot unlike most anything in the east.

Pretty damn sore this morning after the winter trifecta this weekend; alpine ski, backcountry ski and fat biking.

Wife and myself wandered in to Kidney Pond at Baxter this past weekend. Not much snow for alpine, but we enjoyed the solitude.

Jay is in great shape, most of the goods were gotten yday when all lifts ran though we have gotten a decent dusting on top since yday. Lines at the Bonnie and Jet were 20-30min today. Probably should have just gone to Big Jay but I had kids in tow. Timbuktu still has some fresh stashes.
Winds also decently high tomorrow but slightly diff direction so maybe flyer/tram run

Having the Flyer and Tram down crushed Jay on Saturday; I heard they set a record for riders on the Bonnie, previous high was 11k in a day. I had the exact same thought as you about Big Jay when we were bootin' up in lot but was unfortunately resort-bound as well.

singles line was manageable, and hiking up from the Bonnie to get the west side goodies was definitely the move. Beaver Pond skied really well early in the day with a bunch of fresh lines still, Jay definitely has a lot of snow and pretty much all terrain in play. Sunday was good too, got out early to fire some groomers, knocked around in the woods a bit with the new snow that was falling... skiing is fun!!

new legal rasta-esque spot. the snow after the crowds yesterday didn’t completely wipe out the weekend damage but it was good. lots of open shots off the ridge that feed into these little chutes where the creeks run.

was about 4f booting up but got reasonable pretty quick.

eta: damn nice TR, looking forward to digesting on the big screen!
